As it's dark deep winter in the UK I'd like to check the wheel bearings on my summer bike, but can't remove the end caps from my Easton EC90 front wheel with Echo hub.

The insides are smooth, so no way to unscrew them with a hex key, can't pull them out either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Looking at the parts diagram, it does not appear to be any screws. If you have a vise with soft jaws, then you can probably pull off the cap that way.

I once used a simple plastic expansion plug to get the end cap out. Like this:

The size of the plug should be big enough to barely fit in the end cap hole. Then just screw in a screw and if you are lucky, you can pull out the end cap.

Thank you!

Sounds good, got lots of plastic plugs in the toolbox. I will try that one tomorrow!

Got one of the end caps off using a small raw plug and screw. In the end it didn't need much force.

There is some grease inside the bearing.

Does this look OK, would it benefit from being re-greased?
