I am interested in purchasing the DT-3 and DT-3I.2 for rotor truing but wondering if there is a more economical wheel stand. I have no intent of truning/building wheels. Any good alternatives? TIA!

Just use your bike flipped upside down and eyeball the pad gaps?

Tacx used to make a simple truing stand for the home mechanic that was around €50, maybe you can find one of those, otherwise if your intend is just to tru a wheel, there are some cheaper options on amazon

You do not need wither of those tools. You can do it with the rotor on the bike as others have already suggested. Here is a video of how to do it on the bike. I have access to tools specifically to measure runout on the rotor but 99 times out of 100 I would correct it on the bike.
