Has anyone had any experience with the just released Peak 4550 wheelset?

I'm sure they're fast, but... wow, $3000-$4000 depending on hubs. That's something.

26mm external width and 1350g for a 45mm/50mm deep wheel with WW hubs doesn't impress me though.

Got to say I don't get it. These wheels are:

Internal width (hook to hook): 18.5mm
External width (max): 26mm

So many (most) normal 25mm clinchers will come up 26mm wide, or more on the rim and so there's no chance of keeping to the 105% rule.

So they are either optimised for 23mm tyres, or not as aero as possible. Either way a big turn off at that price point.

I think the tubular versions are more interesting considering the weight.

I just got a set of the Peak 4550 rim brake clinchers with Tune hubs (J-bend spokes). Weight was less than expected at 1294 grams (730 rear / 564 rear). Paired them with a Continental Attack 3 23mm front and Continental Force 2 24mm rear (out of production but very nice in my experience) and Vredestein Race Ultra Light Latex.

Compared to my Dura Ace C24 wheels they are less smooth riding but roll faster, over 100g lighter, and laterally stiffer. They do catch more cross winds of course. Durability TBD.

They suit my first gen Trek Emonda SLR very well. Total weight is 12.7 pounds with Red Mechanical, Dura Ace Pedals and one bottle cage.

Having tried a few of their other wheels I'm sure they're great for what they are. That being said, I can't help but feel that for this specific model the clincher version was a bit of an afterthought - they were probably originally conceived of as an ultra-light tubular wheelset for pros. I personally wouldn't buy a wheel this narrow in 2022.
