Compound or sidewall must have been slightly different.
Otherwise, the narrower sample shouldn't have more grip.

Is their way this could be normal manufacturing varations? To me it looks like the color on the tan wall version is just painted/printed on, so I doubt there is a real differnce in construction or compound.

Is the tanwall available? I have been searching for a 25 and 28 mm but can't find them in the German online shops.

I've been looking for 30mm w tanwalls. Most places expect them by Sept. Crazy.

If the compound is different, I wouldn't be surprised, Conti is neither the first, nor the last mfg to do rolling, unannounced changes in the compound for the same model of tyres.

Veloflex Records, for instance, just got 4W slower as per Aerocoach testing vs last year variant.
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:
Aero bike | GC bike | GC rim bike | Climbing bike | Climbing rim bike | Classics bike | Gravel bike | TT bike | Indoors bike

Why would a tire company make a tire slower? Would thy put a faster compound out for early tests and then after it's recognized as a "fast" tire, change the compound to help with other areas ?

I switched from 25c TL to black wall 28c TR and I'm fairly sure the new tires roll slower.

I doubt you can feel ~2W difference for a pair of tires at 30km/h.

Why do you take every test number you read online as gospel? IDK what to tell you, I rode thousands of miles on the same set of tires then changed them and it felt like it was rolling slower to me.

I don't care if nbody believes me, not sure why I even bother to post sometimes I just get swooped on and argued with like I don't know anything.

People here can feel 50g lighter wheels feeling more lively when accelerating, so why not that?

I'm not sure about 2 W diff. at 30 kph, but certainly can tell 10 W diff. (old pro one micro skin vs IRC formula RBCC). That was 130 W vs 140 W on good roads, rougly 7.5% diff.

For me it's not so much power output as the general feeling of how fast or slow it loses speed when coasting. Anyway I'm not claiming I can feel 2w or that the tires are definitely slower but IMHO they feel slower. I did set a power PR on a 7 minute climb and ended up 20s slower than my time PR as well but that doesn't necessarily mean anything either. Just an interesting thing to note since I expected 0 difference. I ran the 25's at 75psi and the 28's at 65psi.

I think I can barely tell a 10W difference at 30km/h. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between GP5K, current Pro Ones and even Goodyear Eagle F1 SS.
