I have a brand new pair of DT Swiss G540s with thru axle hubs (disc wheel) but currently starting to put together components for a new build.

New frameset is a quick release, rim brake, will be putting some Campy parts on this.

Easiest (lightest) way to convert the thru axle wheelset to quick release? Or do I need to change the hubs altogether - and with that, might as well get a new set entirely. :noidea:

The front is no problem.

The rear is probably going to be a problem, with some exceptions.

Take the endcaps off the rear wheel. Measure the axle length. Is it feasible that other endcaps can produce an axle length of 135mm? TA road hubs are 142mm.

If the question is yes, then you might be lucky. Start hunting for other endcaps.

Noted. Will measure. But part of me just says, get a new entry wheelset for this build. Keep life simple.

Thinking maybe Mavic CXP Elite's for $289

Or maybe Campagnolo Khamsin's for $350

This guy (user "Velomine") has some good deals over at eBay.

You can get endcaps to convert DT Swiss hubs from thru axle to QR or vice versa - I bought a pair of DT Swiss XM1501 MTB wheels several years ago, and they came with two sets of endcaps for use as either 100/135 QR or 100/142 thru axle.

See https://wheelbuilder.com/dt-swiss-hub-conversion-kits/.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious on what you're trying to do here, how will you use rim brakes on rims without a brake track?

QR = rim OR disc brakes
TA = disc brakes

@montee is right. New build is a Campy rim brake and obviously the current wheels have no rim brake track

Uh-oh. Didn't read clearly.

Yeah, montee is right. Forget about trying to brake on a disc brake rim. Both wheels are incompatible.

(I'm kicking myself for not noticing the obvious here, hehe.)

I totally missed the OBVIOUS myself as well. Haha. Good times.
