They'll switch to discbrakes soon when this year's TDF will be won by discbrake

Probably.

Is it important what the teams do though?

It's pretty clear that the manufacturers don't even want to let rim brakes compete with disc brakes.

If someone decided to only make available recumbent bikes, is it weird that the tdf would be won on one? :D

Come on, don't be pessimistic - eventually Pinarello will be able to make a disc brake bike that does not weigh 8Kg.

It would have been cooler if Ineos had gone for someone else and they had moved to rim.

So rim brakes would win again, because he uses rim brakes when climbing

What's the status on the UCI lowering or eliminating the weight limit (been rumored for years)? I'd love to see that happen and might keep rim brakes around for a long time to come, as a rim brake bike is lighter than a disc brake one. We all know that most cyclists are poseurs, and like to emulate the pros, except for maybe tubular tires.

First Grand Tour is yet to be won with disc brakes if I remember correctly. Last few years the number of rim brake bikes were very very limited in the peloton, but have always prevailed (for obvious reasons).

What are those obvious reasons? The teams with rim brakes have the strongest riders?

now that disc brakes are dominant (in numbers) I dont see the 6.8kg going away anytime soon.

The weight limit made the transition to disc brakes possible. Without the limit there would be lots of 5kg bikes in the races.

What about time trials? That's where aero is king. Any chance of seeing disc brakes on the podium there?

Here's a proposition. What about allowing the bike weight limit correlate to the rider's body weight? An 80kg rider has a minimum weight limit that's 33% more than a 60kg rider's.

Heavier riders could then switch to disc brakes before the lighter riders do. Braking performance compares, and relative weight climbing compares.
