Hey folks. Is anybody using Bitex BX312 hubs or have any experiences with the brand? Lightbicycle can build with those, they are cheaper and lighter than DT Swiss 350 but not as light as Novatec hubs and have better bearings, which is a plus. I can't find much on this particular model though.

Whatever you go with, make it not the novatecs. I've only had luck with bites hubs, polar opposite with Novatec.

I have Novatec D411/412 DB right now, they are ok, very light, but bearing life seems awful. The rear uses four 15267 bearings which are tiny and really wear out fast.

This was my exact issue. I went through three sets of bearings before I gave up on them. The bearing race was smaller than the OD of the bearing was consistently crushing them. On the other hand, I abused tf out of several sets of bitex hubs for years and they are still going strong.

I'm a big fan of Bitex. For me it's either those or carbon - Ti depending on the build.
Another plus with Bitex, they're totally modular and parts are cheap.

Agree 100% with this. I've had several wheels with Bitex and they are awesome. Light, durable, roll great and inexpensive to boot. Carbon-Ti are ridiculous and my favorite hubs. I have some paired with Scope's and they are 1330 grams. Killer!

Thanks everyone. I took my current wheels off today to put the bike in the car and the front bearings are toasted again. I'm getting really fed up with Novatecs.

The freehubs aren't so reliable. The aluminium alloy that the pawls bear against is soft enough that it can deform in use, leading to rubbing on the ratchet ring that the pawls engage.

Old freehub - note the deformation at the base of the pawls, with the top of the deformation having been worn away against the ratchet ring

New freehub before fitting for comparison

Don't they have replacement freehubs of different material to choose from? Maybe not...

Aluminum is too soft for some. Either you're too strong, heavy or you're using a cassette that always chews up the splines.

I killed 3 or 4 Bitex freehubs during sprint efforts and went to Novatec. Good luck so far, the oldest set now needs new bearings.

For very strong freehub mechanisms check out dtswiss or the chinese copies of them. They engage like 30 teeth at once and not just 3-6. Sprint proof. :)

I'm on DT 240s now for the disc bike, but my Novatecs (like 5 or 6 sets) are all doing fine.
