Another product shot.. 1585g, 21mm internal width. Should be a nice cost effective gravel wheelset for general riding.Image

The hubs are non-USB hubs. So a big step down from the Bora wheels. They are affordable for sure.

Can you feel the economic down fall? Shamal line now comes with J-bend spokes and not even a USB hub, and then a sticker is slap on the carbon rim rather than the water transfer decal. It follows similar move by Enve 45/65 and Zipp 303. Less and less people buying premium products? Or the mfgs are trying to reshape the line up to suit the economy?

1585g makes them absolutely porky at any pricepoint.

Indeed they are on the porky side.. Seems like new gen campagnolo wheels are all a bit porkier.

The n3w freehubs are interesting..gives compatibility with 10t cogs and even microspline.. Not sure if the adaptor for current 10/11/12s cassette will cause durability issues in the long term...we'll see.

+ Looks cool (in marketing glamor shots)
+ A recent change of opinions, but I'm glad they moved away from flat spokes
+ TLR feature a plus

- I hate decal stickers cheapening the looks. They're like Bontrager's now... Uuughhhhhhh nooooo Campy these aren't Zonda's. ;(
- Heavy for carbon disc at such nominal profiles... maybe it's the combo of TLR, 21mm internal depth, and dual G3 spokes all adding up.

They'll probably be rock solid... all my Shamal wheels have proven themselves to be super durable, so I imagine Campy's continuing with that ethos with wherever they are putting in the weight.

I think the big companies are just sweeping into the low/mid range market whereas before carbon wheels were seen as premium/high-end only, disc brakes probably help this as well since there is less complexity with R&D and QA and now even low range bikes can be sold stock with full carbon rims

I guess they compete with new Zipp 303S, as the price looks exactly the same.
Rim height 35/40mm vs 45mm
Internal with 21mm vs 23mm
External with 28,1mm vs 27mm
Weight 1585g vs 1530g

They just don't look like a premium product.

I have a set now and they look good in the flesh. I have not ridden them yet. Maybe at the weekend.
