Regarding the 37... If I intend on running 28mm tires on those, I'll definitely break the 105% rule, as the tire will probably inflate to about 30mm or so because of the 21mm ID, on a 28mm wide rim.
Would I loose any aero benefit and/or crosswind stability VS my stock, shallow bontrager alloy rims with 25mm tires? Is there a point in getting those wheels if I mess up the aero profile with big tires?

The 105% rule is not a hard rule and it even varies with rim design. You will not suddenly be at a massive aero disadvantage for using 28mm tires. Also if you care about aero performance, you’d choose the Aeolus RSL 51s instead.

Has anyone here ridden the 51 Pro (non-rsl)? What are your thoughts on them? There is currently 2 online reviews available and they say quite opposite things about them.

I had a pair of Bontrager Aeolus XXX 4s that I loved but unfortunately they have cracked at the rims, and I bought them before the move to lifetime warranties so am SOL minus Trek offering 30% off a replacement pair. Considering the RSL vs Pros in the 51 depth is a difference of $1300 for me after tax. The big difference between the two seems to be 180g weight savings, and a DT Swiss 350 hub with 18T vs a 240 EXP with 36th. Not sure if anyone here knows much about DT Swiss hubs, but since my existing XXX wheels came with a DT Swiss 240 hub (pre-EXP), I can just mix and match parts between that and the 350 hub in the Pros, right? Because assuming I can save the hub, I'll just swap out the internal parts to save some weight and save my 36t from the existing wheelset.
I just bought the RSL 51, too. What rim tape width did you use? Trek recommends their strips or 25mm for the 23mm rim width. But I would normally tend to use 27mm at least.
Sorry, I don't remember and don't have any left to check. In my experience wider is normally better (within reason) for tape.
Usual recommendation is 2-5mm wider than internal diameter. You should be fine with both 25 and 27mm.Nohands83 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 1:57 pmSorry, I don't remember and don't have any left to check. In my experience wider is normally better (within reason) for tape.
I now have the 51 RSL with 23cm hooked rims and used 27mm Bontrager tubeless tape. Fits inner width of the rim exactly from side to side, the 25mm wasn't enough due to the deeper mid channel of the rim. Fantastic wheels (mine weighted 1.44kg instead of the 1.41kg advertised with HG body. Super quiet DT Swiss 240 hub, you can hardly hear anything. Much quieter than Syncros hubs or even my Newmen hubs).hannawald wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 2:33 pmUsual recommendation is 2-5mm wider than internal diameter. The disadvantage is mostly at large yaw angles, most of the time it should be good.ToileySiphon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 4:11 amRegarding the 37... RSL51 vs 62? Is there any reason to go for 62?
Watt difference will be minimal. 51 is more stable. What about stiffness?
