How is that specific to tubeless? Wouldn’t it impact clincher use, too?

What latex tubes and valve extenders are people using with these wheels?

Just anecdotal but on tubeless wheels that I've built, the spoke tension drop has been noticeably higher when using a tubeless tire. Maybe the stiffer bead exerting more force on the rim?

Does anybody ride the ALpinist CLX in an S Works Venge?
I'm looking at a light allround wheelset like the Alpinist CLX for my Venge.
Came across MCFK wheels too which are as light and cheaper.
Any advice from you guys?
I have run MCFK 35s with extralite hubs for a few years on my Cervelo C5 and now factor Vam 02. Weight is 1204 grams. The wheels are fantastic. Stable (which you would expect at that depth). Strong - I have run them over technical gravel and very poor roads, and they have stayed true post 3000 miles. Hubs are easy to service. Highly recommend and of course no experience with the Alpinist.
Lots of bikes: currently riding Enve Melee, Krypton Pro, S Works Crux, S Works Epic Evo, SL7.
In build: SW SL8

Curious to see a lot of pro-riders on Roval Aplinist during the firts classic races here in Belgium.
Although also a lot of Rapide wheels.
But I would have thought they would keep the Alpnist for the more montanous races?
A sI probably want be able to have both I decided this week to order a set of Alpinist to go on my Venge.
Will arrive next week. I know Alpinist and Venge might be two opposites but to me the Alpinist is the more versatile set.
Average pace of my ride is around 30km/h
The Rapide would look cool though...

I think that one of the main reasons they might be running the Alpinist, is to have a lighter, and faster responding wheelset on the cobble classics, where a lot of hard cobble climbs might make or break the race

Will 200gr make such a difference? I would say "no" but I never tried them...

150g...
I think it's not really the weight driving the choices. Maybe fear of crosswinds? 150gr is not noticeable. Actually, the alpinist are light and all but the weight of the rapides is really impressive given what one gains in terms of depth.

Agree. I'd rather have the aero'ness of the Rapides over the 150g weight saving of the Alpinists. But I'm sure the Teams had run their algorithms and the Alpinists came out on top.

It can't have been to do with crosswinds, since the 51mm fatty front doesn't move in the wind!

They should revise their algorithms.

Here in my country in covid related topic one of the specialist initially predicted 120% of deaths of total population. Go figure. :noidea:

Many pros will prefer the Alpinist even in the velodrome, they are neither accelerating better nor is a V-shaped front rim noticeably better in the wind than their Rapide front wheel.
It's just what pros are used to.
The rapide CLX are the by far most stable wheels I have ever ridden in the Wind. More stable than ENVE 3.4 or RsL37, I mean it!
Cervelo P5 Disc (2021) 9.1kg
Factor Ostro Gravel (2023) 8.0kg
S-Works SL8 (2023) 6.3kg

*weights are race ready, size 58/L.
Sold: Venge, S5 Disc, Roubaix Team, Open WI.DE, Émonda, Shiv TT, Crux, Aethos, SL7

Could it be that they are worried about damaging the front rim over the cobbles?

I second the Rapides being the most stable wheel that I've ever ridden, and that the areo benefit out weights the weight penatly, but if I'm riding that course, and had the chocie, I'd go for the Alpinists.

Are these pros running these 2021 Rapides/Alpinists with tubes or are they ignoring the warnings any going tubeless?
