This is a question for all the Specialized dealers out there, when do the new Rovals release for 2020? The murmuring on these boards is that there is already an embargo date on the info. Any truth to that?

There was a Specialized (and Roval) event a few weeks back for the dealers (all pretty secret and everyone had to give off their phones as well). All the new stuff of 2020 was shown.
No, I didn’t attend the event.
Yes, there’s still an embargo.

I just heard of an Alpiniste CLX version, the successor of Alpiniste SL carbon which only weighed a bit more than 1kg (officialy 1060g I think)
Will most likely be a superlight climbing wheelset.

I guess they will be released in April or May.

Just based on what I heard.

Interesting stuff, thanks for the insights. Anyone know if the CLX 50s & 64s will be replaced?

Yes, I think so. The CLX 50 is due (I think the current version was released 3 years ago).
edit: plus they have to resolve the current spokes problem (spokes are rubbing against each other which causes an annoying sound while climbing (had to « lube » my spokes to eliminate it :D ).

About the alpiniste CLX: My LBS read to me (on the phone) from a catalogue or sth and one thing he said was: Alpiniste CLX front wheel.
So I assume since the last version was released about 10 years ago (~2010) it has to be a new wheelset (?).

Also based on what I heard :-) yes the CLX50 and CLX64 will be replaced by one asymetric set "50 front-60 rear" that would be lighter than the CLX50. I also heard about a superlight climbing wheelset.

What timeline we looking at for the announcement? I have a pair of clx50s on my tarmac, and was trying to buy a set of wheels for my venge (was looking at 64s). With a possible differential set, and the rumored lower weight (lower than the 50s), I am now more split on what I should do. Price point on these new wheels?

Anyone know if they have improved the tubeless retention?

I'm having a CLX64 wheel built up to be matchy matchy with my Roval321 disc... so if CLX64 dissappears from the line up that will be kinda sad.. That would leave me to an Enve 7 front or swissside 80... I think I will be happy with my CLX64/321 combo.

I'm a big fan of the the CLX series of wheels (CLX50s are my "daily driver" wheels on my main road bike), but there are other wheels that pair well with the 321 disc...

Why such a long chain? Less tension, less drivechain loss?

Also heard of an asymmetrical wheelset like the Enves.

The front wheel being wider is a common feature for aero wheels now. Perhaps Spesh is just now doing it, but it makes sense.

This. They need to add the safety ridges and change to a deeper concave central channel.
