Hi, I’m planning a new build but can’t decide on the wheels. What i’ve been looking at are the Extralite cyberdisc 38c (1080g) which seem quite pricey and flimsy and the JRA gecko carbon (1280g) that sacrifice a bit of weight for price and stiffness. The wheels are going to be paired with some Schwalbe G-one tubeless 38c tyres. Which ones would you go for and do you have other suggestions?

Are the JRA just an open mould rim with a Bitex hub?

Going by the £850 price tag you could have Farsport deeper/wider rims on Carbon Ti hubs for the same sort of $ and weight..

I built some Light Bicycle Flyweight MTB rims (295g) on DT Swiss 240S hubs for a 1200g 29mm wide gravel wheelset. Running fast light Rene Herse 38mm tyres.

Build was US1195 + shipping.
I’ve put 10000km on these wheels. Bulletproof.

looking at their website, how is a MTB rim lighter than their road disc rim offerings?

also, did you get charged import fees as im from AUS too

If you are light enough the extralites will probably prove stiff and strong enough for some gravel riding. If you plan to do a lot of gravel and/or heavier rider then maybe look at something a bit beefier.

I have the RM29C06. They are superseded by the XC925 which have a wider 25mm inner width and weigh only slightly more. The max pressure is 45psi. Plenty for 38mm tyres. Their gravel and road rims are rated too much higher pressures and need more material, and thus weight.

No import duties or GST incurred on these or other purchases from Light Bicycle.
