I’ve been given a Campag bora one 50 front wheel that has a small crack in the aero part of the rim (sorry can’t think of the proper name), just wondering what people’s opinions are on its usability. Rideable? Fixeable? Bin job?

Maybe it's from something external like storage hooks or something?

That place is usually quite thick (nipple reinforcement) so unless it's at a nipple hole I don't see how a crack would start there if it's anything structural wrong.

I'm not a carbon expert, but in this case I'd be cautiously optimistic.

To me it looks like it would be an easy repair.

before anything, i would moisten a section of micro fiber cloth and add a little bit of toothpaste and rub it in to the cloth.
then try polishing out the area on the rim.
if its purely cosmetic. a blemish in the clear coat, it will come out looking like new
if there's a crack in the carbon, you will be able to see it better

I’m pretty certain it’s a crack, just doesn’t show up that well in photos but I’ll give that a go tonight. Another thing is if you look parallel down the rim surface it appears slightly dented in around the crack.

It sure looks like a crack. You could try the tap test - tap with a coin or piece of metal. Does the area sound "dead" compared to an uncracked area.

To me it looks rideable and easily repairable but I wouldn't want to bomb down a descent at 50mph on that front rim unless professionally repaired.
