New to disc brakes and a bit confused with the compatibility between through axles and framesets. I'm considering Cervelo R5 disc which comes with proprietary 12mm t/a.'s front and rear. Wondering if or how the frame accepts larger diameter through axles?

I understand wheelset brands use different size t/a's, but I'm not sure if the frame is compatible with other size through axles? For example, if I'm using the original 12mm axles and decide to use different wheels requiring a 15mm axle, would I just need an adapter for the hub/wheelset and continue to use the same 12mm axles?

I hope this makes sense?

Thanks in advance

No, you would only ever use wheels with 12mm endcaps installed. 15mm TA is for MTB and some chunky early gravel bikes.

Wheels/hubs are otherwise TA agnostic. If the 12mm endcaps are installed on the hub, then that wheel can be used with any bike that uses 12x100 / 12x142mm TA.
