Tempted by these, but put off by Hunt quality control + aftercare, any similar weighted/prices reccomended wheelsets? For a gravel bike, to swap for road days, with main focus on hill climbing.

They're £399. For a pair of built wheels that's pretty cheap. What else are you going to find that will promise better QC and aftercare?

You could look at internet wheel shops like Just Riding Along or Superstar Components, though.

If weight is your thing, the only thing close would be DT Swiss 21 dicut. Their 32 deep wheelset is a better allarounder but weight 200g more. If you want wider and more flexibility, maybe a Stans grail build or CN carbon wheelset.

For $399, they’ll tell you to buy a new wheelset before helping you out. Shipping on a wheel 2 ways is expensive.

For the price you could get a custom pair of wheels with DT 350 hubs from someone like DCR. They probably won't be as light as the Hunts, but worrying about wheel weight when you're using disc brakes on a hill climb bike means you've got your priorities mixed up!

They're not 1488g either. Mine came in closer to 1600 (with their crap rim tape). Let's just say I'm less than happy with them, and the weight isn't the half of it.

Thanks! Would you say the 55gram lighter 1400s are worth the extra?

Thanks Mdeth, on paper they look fantastic and was about to buy, but after I went digging I found lots of bad press, and misclaimed weights was frequently mentioned, followed by cracked rims and none tensioned spokes.

Thanks DJT, its a gravel bike that I take out with roadies, on 40cc tyres, and heavy stock wheels, so i'd like my spare wheelset to be as light as possible to match up with some skinny road tyres, without going too OTT on price.

A couple of hundred grams in the wheels will make no appreciable difference in terms of keeping up with the roadies. There's always a tradeoff somewhere; if you want light/stiff/strong/reliable then you need to spend money. For a cheaper set of wheels at your price point, I'd always pick something handbuilt on the heavier side (1600g+) as I know they'll be stiff/strong/reliable. I've owned Hunts in the past, they're fine wheels and the customer service is good. I'd take a custom pair from a custom wheel builder though.
