New Mavic rims?
Moderator: robbosmans
Earlier today I saw something which said that Mavic are releasing some new rims which are available on their own so you can use whatever hubs you want.
I think that one of the things they said was that there is a new Open Pro Carbon which sounds interesting - but I can’t find anything anywhere.
Can anyone confirm this?

I'm left handed, if that matters.

All ust std (the only real option not to gamble at the moment to have rim tire match...) and found great to have 20 to 32 spokes option.
First available specs seems to be those ones.
CXP Pro Carbon UST rim are 25mm x 40mm 425g
CXP Pro Carbon UST disc are 28mm x 45mm - 450g
Not sure if was a typo on the disc / rim brakes weights
Open Pro Carbon UST rim 25mm x 25mm -425g
Open Pro Carbon UST disc are 27mm x 32mm - 405g
All have their latest braking surface (is that the best braking surface available today? Better than shimano and Zipp I have no doubts, better than the Bora ac3 one?)
Their last rim weights were very accurate (even below the catalogue one for the open pro), if that’s the case the open pro carbon represent a minor gain but curious to see if other aspects are improved.

Seems like a lot of $ for the weight...

As if $500 is that steep for carbon rims...?
They don't look like anything special although they are reasonably light.

Is this just am illusion/facet of the image from the BikeRumor article or is Mavic applying only a narrow layer of tape as opposed to full width to cover the spoke holes?

I can't see your picture but tape is full width, it's the bare rim with no tape in this picture:
I'll believe those weights when I see a production rim weighed by an independent source, Mavic wheels using those carbon rims are quite heavier than originally claimed...

On that rim I'd actually try and run narrow tape in the valley and leave the shelf uncovered so it didn't interfere with mounting and pulling tyres.
