Hi ww

I know this is an odd question as the 4000S (first generation) havent been produced in a long time but there's a guy practically giving a pair away and it just so happens I need some tires for my climbing bike.

I'm wondering what the S2 actually brought to the table. What is better on the S2? Can anyone remember some tangible benefit other than marketing claims?

Thanks /a

I seem to recall a new, better black chili compound. My biggest concern would be whether the rubber has turned hard or degraded while these tires were sitting around for 5 years. New GP4000s are going for $33 so these would have to be super cheap.

Pretty sure the old version did not have Black Chilli (which is awesome, and you want it! Especially if you're descending after the climbing bit). Or maybe an older version of Black Chilli.

The 4000S2 also runs a lot wider iirc.
