Guys,

Need your advice please. Have an Orbea Orca Aero M20 Team 2018. Weighs a very heavy 8.5kg. Shopping for carbon hoops.

Now torn between buying a used 2017 Zipp 404 with 77/177 hubs or a new Roval CL50. Rovals are about 30% more expensive than the Zipps.

Which would you choose? I weigh 70kgs, need versatile wheels because there is decent climbing in my rides. Zipp 404s weigh 1650g, Roval's weigh 1450g roughly.

Thanks very much for the help!

Can't make the direct comparisons.. But as user of clx50s, I find them great in general. CL50 only lose out on aero spokes I think.

As my first deep wheelset.. I had some reservations and wanted initially to go back to a 30/40mm depth. Long rides later.. Changing tire size/profile also change cross wind performance. Now I love them.. Could use a shallower /lighter set but don't "need" then. I'm about your weight add or minus a few cookies/donuts/cakes...

As your choice.. I would go for the lighter option, 200g rotational mass isn't nothing especially if you climb lots. That said, buy what you can afford.

One thing... Rim vs disc? I would be hesitate on roval rim track on previous report.. I think even the 2017 zipps are better.

I'm on disc.. So no issues for me.. Looking at old reviews they(roval) weren't great in the wet. Also depends on the 2nd hand zipps.. How's the brake track on it? Brand new should be better.. But used? No idea.

How much wet weather riding do you do? Depends on your region as well.
