Looking for recommendations on a new road wheel set (disc brakes). I have a budget of around $1600.00. I'd like something between 40-50mm deep and tubeless ready. Will be used with 25 or 28 mm tires.

I am currently trying to decide between the Reynolds AR41X DB and the Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon UST Disc?

Which would you recommend between the two or would you recommend something else?

THANKS

In search for an efficient balance between rolling resistance and drag it often goes like this:

Heavy rider/bad roads = wider rims

Lighter rider/smooth roads = narrower rims

100kg rider on Bora wheels , not recommended
60kg rider on Roval (wide) wheels, not recommended

Token Konax Pro Disc Prime
FFWD F4D
DT Swiss ERC 1100

The Token looks like it could be the sleeper of the bunch.

There are some DtSwiss wheels on Merlin that meet your requirements. Or Roval Cl50

Once you are on disc brakes it seems to me that the risk of a direct from China wheelset gets a whole lot lower. I mean that you don't have to worry about overheating brake trakes as you do with rim brakes. Resin temperatures and special brake track treatments - no consideration.

From Light Bicycle or Farsports you could get two sets of wheels with DT Swiss hubs for less than $1600, a lot less if you are willing to go with Novatec or Bitex hubs. Sure, if something breaks down the road you don't have an easy warranty path but either company will send you a warranty rim which you could have replaced locally.

I would definitely go something like the Light-Bicycle route for your requirments, especially with disc.

I had my LBS build me some wheels comprised of Light Bicycle rims, CX-rays and Carbon-Ti hubs. They've been nothing short of incredible going on 3 months now. I ordered the 12k weave from LB, and it makes for a terrific, retro feel. Super wide, super light, super enjoyable. You can't go wrong at all. I've been running them tubeless with Pirelli Cinturatos.
