it looks like XDR will be launched very soon, Sram uploaded 2 new XDR (vs XD) videos on 2018-10-16:

1st video - SRAM XD & XDR Driver Bodies Explained (2:23) - English only
2nd video - SRAM XD and XDR Driver Body Cassette Installation (1:13) - also in Deutsch and Français:

It’s probably too much to ask for Zipp to release an XD-R freehub body for the older 188 hubs, but I can always hope!

Looks like White Industries anticipated XDR and all their XD bodies were already XDR bodies with 1.85mm spacers.

I wonder if I can machine 1.85mm off my 5 XD drivers to accept XDR cassettes...

HWYAAX00S0683S - XDR 142x12 kit (3 pawl) - only for 1800 SPLINE db
HWYAAX00S8888S - XDR 142x12 kit (ratchet) - only for straight pull centerlock road hubs
??????????????????? - XDR QR kit (SP) - kit not listed, but all dt road wheels listed compatibile with XDR

- it looks old DT hubs for J spokes may be not compatible with XDR
- compatibility with 12x148 hubs is unknown (some websites list 142/148 compatibility, but I don't trust them)

Anyone know if Formula hubs have an option for XDR? I have no idea if they use their own standard, body design, or use someone elses (hoping for the latter).

I e-mailed Zipp last week, before the SRAM AXS group was released, and asked if a new XD-R freehub would be released for the 188 series hubs (V9 and older). Originally, I was told that they couldn't discuss rumored products, and no announcement was forthcoming.

Today, I replied to their e-mail, since AXS is out, and asked them if there was a different response. Much to my surprise, Zipp responded, saying that they're waiting on engineering to get back to them, and should have an answer this week. If I hear something, I'll post it.

you've got it backwards - you'd have to add 1.85 mm to your XD drivers. You can make XDR accommodate XD cassettes, not the other way around.

Both got it right. But talk about it in different way.
XDR is 1.85mm wider than XD. So machine 1.85mm extra space into the spoke mount area (might still be shoulder of the XD hub driver ?) to expand the XD width will make the XD driver accept XDR cassette.

Price is in line with an 11 speed freehub. Too bad the AXS is so expensive.

I don’t think take up will be slow at all. XDR is poised to simply replace XD since its backward compatible with any existing XD-based cassette. I imagine most MTBs and MTB wheels spec’d for SRAM will simply use XDR bodies.

Makes sence as with Shimano you need to use a spacer ring for the mtb 11 speed cassettes.
