were the Shamal Miele ever a 15mm internal diameter?

Yes. The first gen ones were.

Yes. I own a set of them. They came OEM on my 2018 Canyon Ultimate SLX 9 Pro purchased this spring. I assumed it would have come the C17 verision. Just another example of Canyon cutting corners to hit their "value" pricepoint (i.e., kitting their bikes with last-gen wheels).

Any way to tell the difference by cosmetics, logos and such?

Yea...easy to tell from the color of spoke nipples, first gen Silver colored. C17 black spoke nipples. Same exact black spokes.

It also says C15 on the inside of the rim bed. That's how I realised mine were C15 (much to my dismay) when changing tires for the 1st time.

Agree Canyon's known to do this, and sorry for your misfortune.

Will say though, it goes to show the real-world difference between C15 and C17 if you didn't notice (or question the tyre shape, feetl, etc) until changing tyres.

This got me wondering, btw, now that Canyon's got a new "cheaper" Ultimate SL from the same mold as the Ultimate SLX... and given the +/- 10% variances in frame weight... how will one ever know what mix of fibers they actually use? What if they were out of a given fiber for a few weeks, and decided to do a batch of SLX's with cheaper fiber in some parts... we'd never know.

I have the same thing, got the 2016 version of my wheels on a 2017 Canyon lux cf. the 2016 model is ~20mm internal. The 2017 is ~22.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, i don't *need* the wider rims for the sort of tyres/riding i do. Just caused the raising of an eyebrow.
On the flip side, i appear to have got the 2018 fork as the bike was ordered really late in the year and they were struggling with some of the parts. (The delivery date was jumping around all over the place while they were dicking about with part supply.)

instead of starting a new thread, i'll tack on to this one
i was considering this wheelset because there is/was a pretty good deal for $1225 (maybe a little less) including conti gp4k2, skewers and possibly a cassette
but i can't imagine this wheelset is nearly 2-1/2 times better than a $506 HED Belgium C2/sapim laser/bitex 20/24 custom built wheelset at 1412 grams

however, i already have a set of belgium C2/cx-ray/dt240 20/24 wheelset

along with a pacenti sl23-front/forza-rear, WI-f/Tune-r, cx-ray, 18/28

so i'm wondering if shelling out the $1300-$1475 for carbon wheels. specifically the NOX falkor 36r (bitex) - 1330 grams, or the FairWheel FSE EVO 35mm or 45mm (carbon-ti) 1275 grams

or it seems that there are Zipp 202/303FC (used) to be had on the sleaze-bay for $1000-$1300

@Catagory6: It's funny how people on this forum seem to come to similar conclusions, and try similar pieces of kit in succession.

My every-day wheelset has been Shamal C17 (non mille). I recently decided to give Easton R90SL rims a go with DT Aerolite's (basically the same as CX-Rays) on DT 240s hubs 24/28, and suspect I'll soon be selling the Shamals. Very responsive wheel, fun to ride, but aero as a combievan in a headwind and not wide enough.

Very curious and excited to compare the two back-to-back.
