Hey All,

Read through a large chunk of this thread and getting ready to place an order for a set of Falcon Pro AR55, DT 240 EXP hubs, CX Ray, 24/24. I have two questions:

1) the "LW" version of the rim--anyone have any feedback on those vs. the regular version? I'm 68kg at my fattest, normally 62kg, so I image this would be fine? I'll be on roads 95% of the time, with occassional groomed gravel climb, and will be running 5000S TL's, either 28's or 30's.

2) no spoke holes: does the sealant react w/the carbon--and is tape still recommended for tubeless if I opt to not have the back of the rim drilled? Not really seeing this on LW's site.

Thanks!
I have this exact setup with flyweight rims and I'm very happy with them! I'm around 72 kg usually and use them with 28mm vittoria's, no issues at all. I don't have spoke holes and I would also recommend that, haven't tried them out tubeless yet but it should be very easy. I would opt for the drain holes if I could do it now, but that wasn't an option when I ordered. Btw weight was slightly more than expected: 1409 g vs 1380 according to the website with that spec, but still very light! :beerchug:

Got a Revolt advanced 2 coming :)
It however has heavy, shallow wheels standard.
Eventually I will get better wheels.

I am thinking AR50 front
https://www.lightbicycle.com/700C-tubel ... -bike.html

And AR65 rear.
https://www.lightbicycle.com/700C-Grave ... ravel.html

Anyone running ARs on their gravel bike?
I am 76kg.

What hubs do you recommend?

Are 24spokes strong enough?
Would prefer that rather than 28.
May put 30mm GP5K on for road duties occasionally.

Great to here! I'll roll with the LW version. I have a bit of a hangover from multip broken Zipp 404's in races, though this was in the days of 23mm tires. That was my only concern w/the LW rims, but the extra rubber should help.

The drain hole thing puzzles me a bit. I've previous run Hed Stinger tubulars and never had any water ingress thorugh the spoke holes--and I'm havin a hard time seeing how water can actually get in there? I totally get it with a fairing type wheel with the Hed Jets, but do any other rims actually have this issue? I guess maybe there's a tolerance isse around the spoke holes. Note, I live in a wet climate and have done a lot of races in a ton of rain, and this isn't something I've run into the past.

Anyone ordered recently and had them turn up? mine supposedy shipped 5 weeks ago but still no sign of them, everytime I ask LB about it they say they are in customs in the UK and should be forwarded on by Royal Mail in a few days but they've been saying it for weeks now. If I wasn't reading years of reviews for LB alarm bells would be ringing; not sure how log I give it till I contact paypal.

It's not overly long yet. Give it time. It takes weeks to ship something from china, it then takes a week or two through customs. Considering the exceptional difficulties with everything at the moment.

Their strong reputation is well deserved. They make quality products. I am a three time customer and would happily buy from them again, even in a pandemic. They can’t control the delivery times once they leave the factory, bear with them, just keep communicating.

I am running the WR50 is my light gravel wheels with 32mm (35mm measured) tyres and I am running the WR65 with 28mm (31mm measured) as my road wheels. If you want one wheel to do road and gravel the WR series are a great choice. I weigh 78kg and can handle the wheels even in windy conditions here in Melbourne with these tyres. I tried running a 38mm (measured) tyre on the WR50 But they catch a lot more side wind, so keep that in mind. Consider getting a shallow wheelset if you plan on running 40 mm measured or larger tire.

I'm running that depth combination in WR on my road bike and I love it. (WR50 front and WR65 rear) Image

Thanks fellas.
I run 50mm deep wheels on my TCR have 404s also and a set of 85mm deep tubular tokens I used for racing.
Not concerned by wind with a 50mm front, just strength and durability on the gravel.

I’ve scratched the finish on my front WR50 riding through chunky bluestone ballast, but I haven’t hit anything hard enough to pinch flat to know their impact resistance. But if anyone had incurred damage to their WR35, WR38, WR45, WR50, or WR65 I am sure we would have read about it in this thread.

I've got plenty of road experience, but bugger all on the dirt.
Dunno how many spokes are needed, how much harder it is on hubs and spoke beds.
Don't plan on going soft enough to have rim strike or ride single track on the Revolt.
That sounds great, thanks :)

The info is available on those links. It depends on which hubs you choose.
I am guessing 1400-1550gms a pair.

If you are moving to dirt from road, as I did, you will likely be relatively light on your gear. Mates who moved from MTB to gravel have more confidence with getting bumped off line when they hit irregularities and descend much harder than me when it’s rough. After 3 years on gravel I’m descending harder but still nothing like guys from MTB.

I am running 28 spokes at 78kg on all my wheelsets. Never had an issue over 15000km of gravel riding on AR24, AR36 and now WR50.
