Hey guys,

Is anyone using non-enve brake pads on their Gen 1 Enve rims?
If so, what pads are you using?
How is braking performance?
How is the rim holding up (rim wear etc..)?

Cheers,

CD

I've been using Reynold Cryo Blue Power pads. Braking performance is by far superior to the Enve pads with less wear on the rim to boot.

Second this. A few things though, power pads are stupid expensive at first glance but my pair lasted well over 7k miles. They also take about 100 miles or so to bed in. So expect mediocre braking in the beginning and then amazing after.

Where are you guys finding Cryo pads. Most places are sold out.

Absolutely agree that stock Enve pads totally suck.
I'm using Campa BR-500X, perhaps still not the best choice, but far better than Enve's own.

Wiggle Lifeline blue seem to be identical to Reynolds, I have both and can't tell a difference except for the logo. Braking is the same.

Pretty sure it's the same as the gen1 Reynolds not the Cryo compound.

The answer to your question depends on your wheels' warranty status.
- If they are out of warranty, you can (should) use something other than the Enve Pads (cryo or black prince?)
- If your wheels are still under the warranty, the following is what Enve says about using non-Enve pads
"ENVE brake pads and ENVE brass nipples are designed specifically for our rims, and failure to use either voids your warranty."

Yeah out of warranty
Using Black Prince pads at the moments. Might give Cryos a go next
