Is anyone selling lightweight alu clinchers?

I’ve seen people posting if 1100 gram clincher builds but that all requires a wheelbuilder and where I live, I don’t know any around. Are there any online stores that sell these builds or any production wheel that comes close? If any WW got some lightweight clinchers (I’d take carbon if need be) I’d take those off your hands as well.

I've played with the same idea. Here is my take...

380gr clinchers.. built with extralite hubs @175gr + super spokes @4gr incl nipple comes to: 380x2 + 175 + 176 = 1111gr

Depends on your weight if these wheels will be reliable or not. They will be very flexy and unpleasant to ride IF you go low cadence.

Carbon clinchers will add much needed stiffness but they won't be any lighter, and you will have the brake safety issue.

For overcoming this flexy issue and making such a light wheelset actually usable you kind of need to go carbon tubular which lowers the weight further while maintaining stiffness and brake safety.

Alloy tubulars are very light too (though flexy like lightweight clinchers), but that's besides the point. I was looking at stock super light aluminium wheelsets a while ago, and didn't find anything under about 1300g. I think they're such a niche product that it's more cost effective for everyone involved to go custom instead.

Where do you live? Wheelbuilding is definitely not rocket science. With some proper advice, you might even be able to do it yourself.

There should be wheelbuilders around where you live. Or at least a couple of clicks away. If you're in US, there are lot of builders who can ship them to you. The same goes for Europe and Australia.

That said, if you're going sub 1200 grams, and you actually want to ride the wheels, you need to be very light yourself, in order for the wheels to be reliable. And descending on those kind of wheels with 60+ kph - well, no thanks.

If you want light wheels because they are light, then fine. But if you want light wheels because you think you will go faster uphill, then you need to consult the science behind aero benefits going uphill. Countless topics about this here on WW.

If you want 1100g wheels stick to carbon tubular. Clinchers at that weight are full of compromises that the low weight fails to make up for.
