What is the difference between the HED belgium and ardennes rim?

With the caveat that I’m not 100% sure, I did build up some HED Belgium C2’s some years back and had the very same question and if I recall what I found out was they are the same rim except the Ardennes was just a built up complete wheelset version. Whereas the Belgiums were just the rim part of it, so you could build up as you like. Great rims. Sold them to a racer buddy and he loves them although they’re finally getting due for replacing.

HED once told me there was a material difference between the two rims but I have no details and that could be wrong. I have an ardennes 18H rims in the shop and the one I have built up built just like a belgium C2. Same rim as far as I can tell.

If you are going with the custom route make sure your wheel builder knows about a unique feature of Hed rims. Each Hed rim is labeled as either front or rear. The spoke holes have a unique angle offset between the front and rear wheels. Watch this video to get an understanding of this great feature.

Kinda weird then that Belgium rims can be ordered directly from the HED website and all options specified except whether the rim will be used front or back?!
