Which latex tubes for 28mm Tyres
Moderator: robbosmans
Just wondering if you can still run tubes designed for 25mm tyres with 28mm or a wider tube is preferred rather than stretching the normal size?
I can only see challenge and vittoria latex in the wider size but have several vredestein I could still use if a narrower tube is acceptable.

I've run Michelin latex tubes A1 (defined for tyres up to 23mm) in Michelin Endurance 28mm tyres without any apparent issues. Latex is stretchy, so in theory you even gain some rolling resistance by stretching them more. However, some added risk of punctures probably also becomes present.
I've never run Vredestein latex, but have heard that they're the lightest (and, consequently, the thinnest) of all latex tubes (which becomes another stretch to what I said above).

Vittoria latex 28c on 32mm tire, no problem.
Only manufacturer I know who produces latex inner tubes officially labeled for 24-30mm clinchers is Silca (700x24-30mm) and Challenge (19-28x622, 29-38x622). Vredestein, Michelin, Victoria are all labeled for up to 25 mm tyres.

Vittoria is very stretchy. After a time of use it would fit a couple of inches bigger wheel. I always have to work it to make sure it is not folded under the tire.

And, at least in the US, they'd regularly on sale on Amazon Prime for around $25 a pair.

Do you have the weight of your 28c latex tube ? Vittoria is 83g, Silca is advertised at 85g. Challenge seem lighter but a lot of bad review on Wiggle website.
I alread6 have vredestein so don’t have Challenge to weigh but this link shows a 19 gram difference between them both

I buy latex tubes 10 at a time. I've had Vredstein, Vittoria, Challenge, and Michelin, all on 28-35mm tires.
Vredstein - the lightest but 50% failure rate. Fortunately they pop soon after inflating, not on a ride.
Challenge - ok quality, weak valve stem area.
Michelin - weak valve stem area
Vittoria - very good success rate, my go-to currently. $8 at Ribble.

Thanks for this comparaison ! Challenge have two sizes, 19-28c and 29-38c (do you use this one ?), the latter seem to have far less bad review and it's advertised at 72g.
