For windup they send a pair of small leather pads to attach to pliers to grab the spoke while tensioning.
I'm guessing Knipex would be the best choice.

I’ve trashed so many lightweight hubs .
Have you tried Red cassettes? They are much easier on the splines and lighter to boot!

The same customer for whom I am building these has a set of wheels I built for them (kinlins and extralite) that are 1141g, so I suspect we could get damn close to 1000g when we go this route.
Wow.

Once upon a time the Berd guys told me they'd be comparable to CX-Rays in price.

Can't say I'll go down this route just yet... but over 100g saved per wheelset is pretty impressive!

These would get my XC MTB wheels below 1000g but I'm gonna wait for black and the $445 price (if I do the labor) is tough to swallow. Maybe next year. Right now they are charging $45/wheel if you want them to rebuild your wheels and free return shipping.

R2 bikes have a few pictures of a build in process on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/r2bike/posts/1611886012213107

Maybe wait a little more, but I'm sure Brad will reply eventually. He answered my ordering question today (took 3 days, probably due to weekend), I see no reason why he wouldn't do the same for you.

Enough with the build pics! Anyone actual ride a pair (or even a single wheel) built with these spokes yet? (Honest) Initial impressions would be great to hear.

Finally ordered a set of spokes, the plan is to relace my XC wheelset (Extralite/29mm ID rims), the target weight should be about 1150g.

I messaged them recently and they do reply, but with 2-3 days delay. They said black/coloured spokes will be available in the next 6 months. Am interested to try them but curious about ride reports as well. @maraudingwalrus did your customer give you any feedback about those wheels?

On a side note I thought it's quite interesting that most pictures of the spokes so far are on mtb/fat bikes....
