Hi All

I have an old 2009 Scott CR1 commuter that has limited tyre clearance between the chain stays. I currently have a pair of Shimano RS80's (15.1mm inner width) with 25c tyres on the bike but they will need replacing soon. With most rims getting wider now (which I totally agree with) the only issue is it makes it hard to find narrower rims for older frames. Any recommendations around $500-600AUD? I want to replace the whole bike at some stage but for commuting duties it's more than adequate.

You can probably just run a 23mm tire which may actually measure 25mm.

DT makes rims that aren't as wide as most. Excellent quality too.

Campagnolo also has their C17 rims (17mm).

Mavic still make the original open pro and a. Brisco make the excelight. Dt swiss 440 are still available. I still have a couple of dt swiss rr411 5's. Then there are tubular tyres and rims.

23mm tyres on wide rims though are fine.

Shamal Ultras with 17mm internal, 22.5mm external at the brake tracks are really good. 23mm clinchers work well with them and end up being a nicer profile than a 25mm clincher on an older narrow rim ala Campy Neutron. Fulcrums are likely very similar.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'll look at the Shamal / Zonda or DT and change to a 23c tyre on the rear.
