Which Aero Wheels

I have a Madone 9. that came with the Vision Metreon 40's.

Issues I see with the Vision's are the braking isn't the best and they flex a lot with my 92KG.

So looking at a few options:-

1) Enve 4.5 with DT240, expensive $3500AUD but what I read is the braking is great.
2) Reynolds Strike, $1500 less than the Enve's but how is the braking.
3) Zipp 404 Firecrest, in-between the 1 and 2.

I would buy the Bora 50, but on a Shimano bike I can't bring myself to do it.

Any other options?? I don't down massive descents maybe 200 - 300 vertical.

You could take a look at Edco Aerosport. I believe they feature the same braking track as Reynolds.

i'd be carefull with edco products. They just went out of business and a taiwanese investor bought most of the rights (non of the edco crew was contracted)
Big problem was the edco rim distributer who was unable to keep up with the edco quality standards and decided to start their own edco wheel brand

Don't limit yourself with this no-mix nonsense . If bora's have the best braking then you should go with them.

You should maybe consider a slightly heavier wheel with an alloy brake track. Go as deep as you can on such a lovely aero frame such as the madone 9.

Reynolds is probably the best braking of the wheels you are considering. There is not really anything between my Bora 35 and Reynolds aero


Edit: not comparing to the textured braking of the newest Enve. Which I have not ridden. My 4.5s were smooth surface.

Agree with Tony Martin - consider Fulcrum. Look a the Quattro if clincher

But they suck in the rain, even with the new blue pads. Those textured brake tracks claim to reduce how much carbon rims suck in the rain

If wet performance is a top priority you're a fool for looking at carbon wheels. Or any rim braking for that matter.

When is the last time you rode alloy in the rain and thought "wow, that braking was excellent"?

I ride a set of Zipp 404 tubulars and weigh in at 90kgs. They brake very well and roll smoothly.

I've had Reynolds wheels (with the CTg braking surface) and Zipp Firecrest wheels (303's and 404's). In terms of raw braking ability, Reynolds wins, hands down. I haven't tried the new brake pads, but they're supposed to be better than the older blue pads, and those were very good.

Zipps will get the job done, and they're very good on descents, at least up to 1mile (the most I've tried them, trying to stay back with my wife, who doesn't like descending). I'm a big guy, and was confident with them.

^You should really try the Power pads. They are absolutely worth the extra cost. I think that is why I put my Aeros even with the Boras (on red pads). And the only carbon wheel I've ridden that brakes better is Knight. Which are also pigs... but smoooooth riding.
