If the new carbon kysriums are any indication, these new cosmic 40s will have 18/24 spoke count.

That said, I remain unconvinced by their hubs ... they have always felt draggy, however trivial that might be it doesn't help out on the road

Their wheels do look great though ...

new freehub also coming..

from road.cc

The freehub has changed too. In place of pawls the Pro Allroad has a 40-tooth ratchet drive that Mavic have christened Instant Drive 360. It's 45g lighter and gives a much faster engagement, 9° compared to 17° for the previous hub. Ratchet drive systems are mechanically simpler, and because the rider torque is trasmitted through the entire circumference of the hub, as opposed to just through a small number of pawls, they're hard wearing and efficient too. Plus, they make a really cool sound. Not that that would ever be a consideration in your wheel purchase. Oh no.

That sounds good, not that the current design is poor but the ratchet drive is the best solution I think.

Very curious to see the 40mm Cosmic.

Hopefully they swap to a bearing system to make the freehub more durable than the curent disposable units as well....

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the hubs are as good as Shimano and Campagnolo

And if they're not, I can't see any reason to buy these ... ok, maybe for a Shimano rider after carbon clinchers.

That said, they do look good and I applaud Mavic's decision to widen the rims and use steel spokes, and bring their
pricing down a bit.

Mavic are back in the game yes. Interesting to see how light the 25mm tubular version will be. I guess about the same as the current 1190g ... so in other words shallower and the same weight as Bora Ones ...

Anyone know if these have a solid rim bed therefore no need for rim tape?

Anyone know if there is a new/tubular version coming? The cannondale team are using these rims but it looks like tubular and the flanges are carbon like on the CCUs.
