Has anyone fitted Vittoria Open Pave 27mm or Challenge Paris Roubaix 27mm tyres to H Plus Son TB14 rims? I need to know how it affects the section of the tyre. TIA

Compared to a standard (19mm) width rim it will make the tyre circa 2mm more rounded on each side.

Your question is far from clear, FWIW. All the wider rim will achieve is a more rounded tyre profile. As long as your frame and brake calipers have clearance for the (comparatively) big tyre, you're ready to rock.

I haven't run a 27c, but a 26c Grand Bois Blue Cerf felt pretty good for a clincher.

Sorry. I'm changing rims from Ambrosio Giro d'Italia to TB14.

Are you saying the tyre will be 1mm larger in radius from the centre? Thanks

Not so much in the centre - if anything it will be slightly lower in the centre than on a narrower rim. The width of the rim will pull the tyre into more of a uniform round shape from rim edge to rim edge (across the tyre), Vs a more bulbous round shape on a narrower rim.

This image sort of explains it:

Thanks man. They grew 3mm wider with the change of rims so still fit my Stainless which was built with 27s in mind but not the carbon :(

Stem has to be swapped back to DMP as pearl isn't a perfect match. Should have had it painted at the same time as the frame. Bugger!

The TB14 has the same internal width as the archetype. On the archetype the 27mm Pave tyre is 27mm. On a 15mm internal width rim the 27mm Pave is 25mm, so you get cheated a bit.

I am fairly sure the Paves were wider than that on my Open Pro Wheelset -- 26ish. We're talking about the Vittorias, right?

Yes vittoria's there is only one PAve I know off. Still 27mm on a wide rim, I was hoping for more!

Sorry to go off topic, but I was wondering if any of you had trouble mounting tires on these rims? I've used veloflex, vredstein and vittoria and none of them went on without a serious amount of effort (and broken tire levers)

No problem at all. When I was using Ambrosio Giro d'Italia rims it was another matter!

As a side note think challenge say the PR open tubular isn't compatible with the TB14 or any wide rim

Do they? If you check the chart they have on their site they actually only advise against going outside the ETRTO standards for tyre width.

The measurement you need to be looking at is the internal width of the rim, TB14's come in at 17.5mm, so there should be no issue with these tyres.

No problems mounting any tyre on H plus son rims. Tyre levers should not be needed.
