Can anyone help me with my mod? I haven't done any electronics since school so I'm VERY rusty. Please correct me if anything I have stated is wrong.
1 - the cable to the battery has 4 wires inside, 2 red (positive), 2 black (negative). Can I just splice the two positive together into a single wire for connecting to the battery and do the same with the two negative wires?
2 - Do you connect the red to the positive terminal on the battery and the black to the negative?
3 - What sort of wire should I be using for splicing and dicing?
4 - Would these be a suitable connector? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Way-Electrical- ... 29fe88acc8

1. Don't know - would need to look at the battery connections. While batterys only have 2 connections, + and -, they often have additional connections to charge management / short circuit protection devices. That could be why there are additional wires
2. Normally yes. Red = Plus, Black = Minus. But best to use a multimeter to check things
3. You should use a multistrand wire to allow flexing, then the amount of copper in the wire should be similar. Unless you want to save additional weight, but that's not worthwhile unless you are going to rebuild the whole harness.
4. I don't see the ebay item. I would personally either use a mini deans connector and cover the lot with heat shrink to keep it dry, or if you want to regularly unplug it you would need a waterproof connector sized to support the max amps delivered by the battery. A search on electric Radio Control model websites will give you some options.

What did you make the keys from? Do you have a photo of them on the bike?

I'm really impressed by A. this outrageous and gutsy custom project and B. your honesty about being underwhelmed.
Sometimes we invest too much in something, and after hours of labor/effort, the effect is not quite what we anticipated. I spent hours sanding my east fork with fine grit, rubbing my hands raw, painting, scouring, repainting, waiting for the finish to dry off the bike
....only to achieve a finish that perfectly matched my frame and looked anything BUT custom. was it worth it? maybe.
