EDIT: November 12, 2011:
Here is my new project: A 52cm Klein Aura XV from 2004:

I sold of my Klein Quantum Pro in summer '09. I was spending more time on my mountainbike and i needed the money to upgrade my mountainbike. Now i not really regret selling it (although is was a very nice bike), it was a die hard racebike and i'm getting into more comfortable bikes (as my mountainbike is a full susser with 120mm travel). After a year or so it started to itch again to get a roadbike again and it should be a Klein. Since the small frame sizes are quite rare it took some time to get my hands on a affordable and mint Klein. Most of the Klein owners think their bike is worth its weight in gold....

So the new project is a Klein Aura XV from 2004. The build will take a while. I'm aiming to get her ready end of March 2012 (when budget comes along :wink: ). This bike is a bit more comfy compared to a Quantum. The color doesn't show on the pics...it is a real beauty.

Weights and wishlist of parts:
Frame completely bare: 1250 grams;
Fork (stock) + headset (Cane Creek IS-8): 540 grams;
Seatclamp (stock): 29 grams;
Seatpost & saddle (SDG I-Fly I-Beam 31.6 - 400mm):425 grams;
Tune Wassertrager: 11 grams;
Second set of bottlecage bolts: 6 grams.

There will be some weight to gain on the fork when i cut it to size, on the seatpost clamp, on the seatpost if i cut it to fit and on the second set of bottlecage bolts.

Wishlist (which is based on a moderate budget):
Campa Athena CT compact with Shamal two way fit wheels;
or:
Sram Force with Fulcrum one or zero wheels (two way fit).

What do you prefer? I really cannot make up my mind. Budget and weights for both builds are about the same. And i want to run tubeless clincher tires, any thoughts about that? Do or don't?

I hope it ends up below 7 kilos at first on a moderate budget!

Here is a reminder of my former owned Klein Quantum Pro '99.

Klein bikes were always sexy...what a paint job!
I'd change the crank to something lighter, personally.
You can grab a Zipp 300 on ebay for under $300!

I love those bikes. The waekest point is certainly your wheelset and tires combo. Ultremo R or GP4000S would be my choice for tires. But wheels.. well you have to write how much you want to spend that would make more easy our suggestions.

But the frame is in class of its own :thumbup:

Try a nice set of handbuilt wheels......research some nice hubs, spokes, and rims.......pick the parts out for yourself and have somebody build them up for you.........They would certainly add some personality to your bike and to your ride...

And dont go with FSA cranks...I personally have had nothing but bad luck with them......Try some Zipp 300's as previously mentioned.....or maybe some nice Dura-Ace cranks.....

Quite an eclectic mix of components there. Klein's are so sexy. The paint jobs really are a work of art.

Spend your money on wheels. But as Record says, depends on your budget. It also depends on which model of Bonty wheels they are, but the Zonda's won't ship the weight between what it is now and what you would like. The other obvious change would be the crankset.

Lovely looking bike.

I'm going to look into the Zipp cranks. Actually never heard of them..... Are they known in Europe? I also thought of Fulcrum cranks.....

But i think a new set of wheels are a better investment now. I really want to aim at a 1500 gram wheelset. Budget will be tight, about 300 to 400 Euro's. A second hand set would also be an option.

Thanks for you comments!

Great looking bike. It would be perfect if the forks went into the head tube flush. The way it's entering looks fragile, even though I'm sure it's not.

It's not fragile, also sure about that. The headset is pressed in. I actually like it, it shows of how big the headtube is.

About wheels:

i know there has been a lot written about American Classic wheels,

i saw a set 350 or 420 for €319,-. So a very good price. I also saw the weight on the 350. Very light!

How would you comment on the stiffness of the wheels for a 75 kilo rider? Also consider i am not a die-hard rider.

shortened my seatpost from 350mm to 230mm.

saves another 26 grams :D

Seat/seatpost combo now 224 grams.

Looking to get me a set of wheels from Shimano, posted another tread on that.

New wheels / tires!!

Looks nice i think,

now i'm going to order the Fulcrum Torq R cranks.

I want a full black/white bike with some red accents (frame / wheels / cranks).

I also looking into new brakes (black). What can you recommend? I'm looking into Campa Record. Any other light affordable black brakes around?

You made very nice upgrade to that wonderful frame :thumbup: Fulcrum cranks are going to be nice too.
How about Ultegra SL brakes? They are very dark grey and you won't have to mix campy and shimano components.
