Regarding the black/chrome; it's not what I was looking for initially. I really wanted an art frame and would have taken a rim brake if I could find one in my size, but yup, it's quite minimalist which I like, and the SRAM Red chrome calipers really suit. I'd love a set of team edition Rovals with the chrome/silver hubs! Not a fan of the HUGE white Roval logos on the wheels, but the hubs would really set the bike off!

Image
Indeed... that would look good. Those wheels are insane. I like the white logos, but I get why you wouldn't.

I like my silver Allez because I can overlay vinyl in any graphics I want and it looks good. I currently have $100 patterns all over it.

Awesome build! I always wanted an aluminium allez. I think the deep rims look great. I also want to get some deeper wheels something around 60mm, the weight penalty does have me hesitating but the looks bonus is high.

Cheers! 100% agree deep wheels (IMHO) just look so super aggressive. These ENVE's weigh in at 1641g, definitely not the ligthest wheels but lighter than the super thin alloy wheels the bike came with so it was a no-brainer at the time of ordering.

I'm seriously looking into CRW Works wheels though as they're so damn light for deep wheels. The CS5060's weigh in at 1290g and the CS6575's weigh in at 1430g. In the perfect world I'd probably run a 50 front and 75 rear for more stability in crosswinds. Fingers crossed I can custom order a 50 front and 75 rear (as opposed to having to buy 2 sets of CRW Works wheels to make it happen!).

First ride out on the Berk saddle + Galfer rotors. No issues with the Galfer rotors and the Berk saddle felt instantly comfortable. It’s noticeably harder than the S-WORKS saddle, but it’s definitely comfortable enough!

Inspired by CrankAddictsRich's photography I set out to buy a new lens.

As a photographer I’m far from being a gear head. I’ve literally never used anything but my trusty f/1.4 FE Zeiss Distagon lens since I bought it new in 2015 but I’ve been struggling to take bike shots with my 35mm 1.4 (not enough separation and even focus on the bike vs the background).

Digging through CrankAddictsRich's threads I found that he uses a 70-200MM F2.8 lens. I googled the price, and holy shitballs, $3,699.00 AUD and the thing is frikkin' huge! He also suggested an 85mm prime and Sony makes an FE 85mm F1.8 for $700 AUD so I pounced on it.

It’s a whole new world for me as I’ve got to stand really far away from my subject, but I think it’s great and that it’ll do the job just fine!

Absolutely stunning shot and beautiful bike man. great stuff.

You're going to love that lens. Try it with some of your other work too. 85mm makes people look amazing too.

OEM SL7 seatpost weight.

Image
The Hylix seatpost is MUCH longer. I don't have a carbon saw though, so will chop it down when I next drop into my LBS.

Image
Happy with the quality. Setting up the saddle is more fiddly than the single bolt OEM design but I'm AOK with that.

Image
Now 7.5 flat (with pedals).

My Hylix zero setback seatpost finally arrived (took almost 1 month). Was very well packed, seller (on eBay) also sent through some very specific instructions.

I was just looking to get some wider tyres, especially for the rear as I’d like to close the gap between the rear tyre and the seattube (it bothers me). I was looking at some 32mm Conti GP5000’s, but then I came across these Continental AERO 111’s so I thought I’d get one for the front (29mm) and will stick a 32mm Grand Prix 5000 S TR on the rear.

Image
280g as advertised, but heaver than the 27mm ENVE SES tyres I have on atm (245g).

Welcome justin, I'm super excited to see a high quality build thread.

Awesome photos. Thanks for sharing your camera specs, I was gonna ask.

Seeing the transformation from Stock, to Front End clean-up, to deep-dish with Galfers is sick. When Roval released their Team Edition with chrome hubs I initially didn't understand who those wheels were for from an aesthetics point of view. But your eye for matching is insanely great and I agree those hubs are made for this frame. I also agree on the white decals as they pull attention away from the black-chrome. Depends on whether you want people's eyes to micro-focus on the Frame + Finishing Details, or macro-focus across the whole build. Some builds do really well with loud wheel decals but for this one I'm with you on micro-focus. It is the art of how you want your art to be seen.

Actually, I have an awful idea. Buy the Team Edition, cannibalize the hubs, and relace on murdered out rims. Don't act on that. Murder is a crime.

I have a Gen2 Allez Sprint as well. I'm 1cm shorter, and went with 52cm, although I did think hard about 49cm. Pandemic stock made the choice for me. I did a build thread few years ago (search 'Nothing Special Spesh Sprint'). Your build is way cooler.

I'm actually really behind on starting my build threads, and seeing your post woke me up and made my day. This is a unicorn build thread. Keep going!

Mates, thanks so much for the warm welcome. You've made MY day!

maxim809 - Just went through your entire "Nothing Special Spesh Sprint" thread, SO much detail, great bike, great photos too. Your BB to saddle height is bang on the same as mine so we're pretty similar in regards to fit. I 100% think a 52 would have fit me better and looks better than a 49 (especially the old rim brake frames as they feature a much fatter seat tube), but similar to you, I literally had to grab what I could get at the time and when the 49 came up I pounced on it. That said I'm constantly making tweaks to the fit after every ride I do (tiny 1mm saddle height adjustments, lever adjustments and saddle adjustments) and I'm happy to say I'm almost there.

The Team Edition hubs kill me. I want them for this bike, bad! Good thing they're not in stock anywhere in the country... I figure I'd cut out some black roval decals to go over the white ones and call it a day if I ever get my hands on some.

As you've noticed; I'm pretty pedantic about the little details. I'm a retired graphic designer, so the whole less is more and attention to detail thing is a way of life (right now I'm freaking out about the rear GP 5000 I'm about to put on as they have huge white tyre logos which I absolutely hate). I've been meaning to replace the stem bolts with black ones, just got to get around to it, and last night I went to take the UCI decal off the seat tube only to find that it's under the clearcoat (lol).

Happy with the bike though, riding it lots and feel that there's not much more I want to do to it except buy a super light wheelset and light tyres just to get it in the 6kg's. I've been planning a true WW build which will be my first carbon frame. So many choices, it's almost debilatating (what a time to be alive!).

TY!

Just an update. Hung out at CCACHE with Sam today to get my new tyres installed. Also splurged on 160mm SRAM RED E1 crankarms! Really happy with how fat the rear tyre looks, but the Aero 111’s look a little thin on the front in comparison. It’s Sunday tomorrow, worst day to ride at the park (Sunday drivers AND Sunday riders!), but I’m too keen to test out the new crankarms and tyres so I’ll have to go out and endure!

Image
Spotted the NERO Show Canyon Aeroad in for a service.

Image
Oops, we made a mess...

Image
No compressor needed to seat the tyre.

Image
Sam adding sealant.

Image
Actual width of the GP 5000’s fitted. Would be way wider on a rim with wider internal width (the ENVE 65’s are only 21mm internal). PLENTY of room in the rear chainstays.

Image
Happy that the fat 32 in the rear has closed the huge gap between the tyre and seat post by around 5mm.

Image
As reported by others on Weight Weenies forum, the 111’s come in a bit narrower than advertised.

Image

Image

Image
165mm SRAM RED crankarm weight.

Image
I really wanted 160mm cranks but SRAM didn’t make 160mm RED cranks, turns out the new SRAM RED E1 cranks come in 160mm and there was a set at CCACHE so I nabbed them! Happy days!

Image
The carbon shows through a lot more on the E1 crankarms.

Image
Thought I’d weigh the Xpedo Thrust pedals whist they were off. Crazy light!

Image
Dura Ace pedals weight.

Image

Image
Sad face. Bit of a weight gain (60g) but that was expected as the new tyres are way fatter than the ENVE SES tyres I had on there.

Ahahaha YES! That's the plan! Time is on my side as I've now stopped looking at SL8 completes, and SL8 framesets too (they were tempting for a while) and I've decided that it absolutely has to be an S-WORKS SL8 frameset. Problem now is the colour choice, or go for a Ready To Paint frame.
