After almost 19000 kilometres on my Merlin, I had the opportunity to more or less pay with photos for a new road bike. This time, the restrictions were not so much in the budget, but mostly the covid-induced dearth of bike parts. But after lots of waiting, I am very happy with the result, it comes very, very close to the perfect bike for me. Some parts were tested and found to be good on the Merlin, like the oval chainrings, pedals, or the bottle cages, some are sponsored, like the HOLLOWcage (which is surprisingly silent!), some, like the Princeton Carbonworks wheels, were on my wishlist for a long time.
I have ridden only about 250km in the first week on the bike, but so far I am blown away. It is fast, ok that part was to be expected, but also very smooth on rough roads. The feeling when accelerating out of the saddle puts a massive smile on my face each time. It is definitely a no-excuses bike – if I am slow, it is 100% me, not the equipment.
As the bike arrived partly prebuild, I have almost no individual part weights. The total weight including pedals, Garmin mount, and bottle cages is 7.3kg.
