Hey weenies,

Some months ago, was very close to selling my OPEN U.P. because i had bought a Supersix evo Himod 2020. Pretty sure the supersix was the faster bike of the two, but the paint and proprietary stuff wasnt satisfying my need for tinkering and optimizing.

A friend suggested i could get more fun out of tuning the OPEN and i quite liked that idea.
Wanting the build to be reliable and reasonably priced is also a little important so i’ve taken that into consideration. Also the bike is more focused on having fun, rather than all-out speed. So no need for deep-section wheels, crazy aero bars and 25mm tires. Might buy a 60-70-80mm wheelset later, just for the fun of it.

Spec will be as follows:
frame/finish kit:
Open U.P. (2020, “new U.P., u-turn fork”) frameset size 54, Blue
Deda Superleggera 42cm bars (40 c-c) 185 gs
Tune Geiles Teil 4.0 120mm stem 126gs
Black Inc seatpost 27.2 (might get swapped for a lighter one) (160-something)
Tune Kom+vor saddle- re upholstered with geniune leather: 108gs
Tune Scraubwürger 30mm seatpost clamp : 8gs
SRAM Supercork tape
Tune bottle cage: very light
Garbaruk topcap which matches the frame color:4.9gs

Drivetrain:
SRAM Red Etap AXS 1x12spd
Cassette will be swapped to Force 10-36 because i need the range of the 10-36 and they dont make a “Red” 10-36)
Dub crankset with the new spiderless xplr chainring size 46t.
Shimano one sided SPD pedals (pd-600 something), fairly light

Wheels and tires:
Roval CLX 32 Rapide 2020
Panaracer gravelking Slick 32mm tubeless
Tires will be ran tubeless as i have good experiences with that. Stans tape, Zipp valves,
Red AXS 160 rotors

Aiming at 6,8 kgs

Heres some teaser pics but i will post more when the build is fully done. Anyone else on here who’s taken the same approach to a “riders” bike?

Cheers

Watching this, nice spec, but assume it'll be closer to 7.2kg...

More pics - definetly changing the bar tape to an old favorite: Zipp service course. Supercorck doent seem like it belongs on a build with these specs...
Cassette and chain is due to arrive in 2 days- i feel kind of bad about adding weight over the 10-33 red, but im going to italy to ride for 2 months, so the bigger cassette will be necessary. Image

Done.
Weighed the bike with a “Body” weight because i dont have a bike weight yet. But it came out on 6.9/7.0 average over 10 weighings. I changed the tyres for the new cinturato tanwalls in 28mm size - 346/350 grams for each tire so i’m a little dissapointed with the weight as they’re listed at 280 or 290 grammes. But very easy tubeless setup with those and the RR is supposed to be quite low. Furthermore they’re almost 100% puncture proof, i rode 2.500 kms on another pair last year without a single puncture. Also changed the seatpost to a roval alpinist 300mm because i got a good deal on one of those. 132 grammes was the weight.
Added a wolftooth roadlink to acommodate the 10-36 cassette on the short cage derraileur.

Looking forward to riding it!

Nice build!
But wouldn't a zero setback seatpost be better for you?

Hi, great looking bike! SRAM DM Chainring is so heavy, about 145 gramm.
