Tell me that steerer is being cut down, as that looks fairly dangerous. Remember your stem insert needs to be clamped under the stem not in blank steerer tube..

Depends on the model year the newer model years that support full internal cables have a D-shaped steerer tube that does not use a compression plug.

This is a 2021 model ordered March and delivered in August, with rim brakes. Has an internal stiffener that goes down far enough so the stem is clamped on the steerer that has internal metal component in the center. Will need to take out the internal stiffener when cutting and then reinstall. I am not sure that it extends to below top of the headset, so I am interested in cutting the top of steerer so the internal stiffener will enter into area covered by headtube on the outside.

If your fork has the D-shaped steerer tube that allows for interal cable routing, then you will not be able to cut the steerer short enought to get to the end of the threaded insert.

Thanks for the information. Did the surgery yesterday, and confirmed that it is round tube. The length of internal stiffener is 8.5cm. I left about 15mm of space to go up when I age.

I am confused as I thought I had read hear and other sites that Colnago had gone to forks with the D-shaped steerer tube for rim and disc brake framesets.

This Rim Brake C64 does not have the internal cable setup, so still retains the round shaped steerer. The order date was March 2021 and delivered to local bikeshop August 2021, so is still current production. I believe the current disc brake C64 would have the D shaped steerer to help with hiding the cables.

Here is the picture with shortened steerer by 2cm above the stem. I imagine this saved a gram or two of steerer and spacer weight.
