Had the itch to build/create something new again. Given the wait times due COVID-19, I decided it would be faster and cheaper to paint my black c64. I have always admired the Mapei paint schemes and seeing nismosr build sealed the deal.

So I sought out a painter late 2020 and decided on. Velocolour in Canada. Noah and Suzanne had already done a few mapei iterations and I was able to see one in person a few years back when they visited Maglia Rosa. So I shipped off my baby with some reservations about the path I taken.

Velocolour is not where you go for an economical paint job, but their work is arguably some of the best in the world. As I was avoiding the 3 month wait, the $6.5k cost for a new Mapei, and most importantly, the headache of selling a used frame, I could splurge and have all 1 of 1 Italian frames in my stable.

From the pics of the painted frame, you’ll notice it resembles a stock C64 but I had them make subtle changes such as the cube colors, length of fade transitions, head badge, and so forth. Build isn’t exciting and merely a port over of parts from my black c64 with some minor changes to bar tape and tires:

Frame: Colnago C64 Disc (56S Velocolour custom)
Seatpost: Colnago
Seat: Berk Lupina Custom colnago
Stem: Colnago R9
Bar: Deda Superleggera
Bartape: Fizik
Bottle cages: Lightweight
Brakes: Campagnolo disc (F:160, R:160)
Fr. derailleur: Campagnolo Super Record EPS 12s
Rr. derailleur: Campagnolo Super Record Record EPS 12s
Crankset: Campagnolo Super Record 12s 52/36
Bottom Bracket: Campagnolo BB86
Chain: Campagnolo Super Record 12s
Shifters: Campagnolo Super Record EPS 12s
Cassette: Campagnolo Super Record 11-29
Wheels: Lightweight meilenstein 24D
Tires: Pirelli
Pedals: SRM EXAKT

Some bad indoor iPhone pics of the frame

Just superb .. does the C64 have a S/N nameplate on the BB you have removed? My C60 had this and it was a nice touch, intrigued if you've removed it.

The original Mapei was nice, but I gotta say this is even better! Do share photos once built up

Like mine, I believe this C64 has the S/N plate on the downtube between the bottle cage mounts.
