Hi everyone,

As a winter lockdown project, I recently stripped and repainted my Colnago C59 myself rather than springing for a new bike. Now it feels like a new bike to me.

The goal was to rejuvenate old parts. Kind of celebrate the past a bit. Still rides perfectly and does everything I need it to.

It weighs in at 6.8kg. Any suggestions on mods for getting it a bit lighter? 6.5kg would be nice. I guess I'm not a card-carrying Weenie yet!

Currently:

C59 in Sloping 52
Sram Red group from 2014
Zipp 303 Tubular with Vittoria Corsa
Easton EC90 Carbon Bar in 42
Easton EC90 120mm stem
Specialized Toupe saddle (160g)
Colnago Seat post
Look Keo pedals
Blackburn carbon cages
Ultegra 12-30 Cassette
DA 10s Chain
DA7800 SRM (yes, it's a bit heavy!)

For training and touring I use DuraAce C24 rims with Vittoria Corsa tires.

Here's the bike:

Hi, what a nice bike you have - and what a nice paintjob incl. shifters.

Some easy and good weight savings are :

* Saddle - Berk Lupina = -70 gram
* Sram Red cassette = -50 - 70 gram
* Titanium / carbon QR's = mine are 42 gram/pair.
* Titanium J&L axles for Look Keo = gave me a 45 gram weight saving
* Weight saving with chain = maybe 15- 20 gram ?

~Succes and have fun riding the bike.

All of the above would be a great start.
Then some small savings but they could help:
- bar tape and plugs
- titanium/alu bolt tuning
- jockey wheels

maybe aftermarket seatpost but yours fits the bike very well so that's probably a NO-GO ;-)

There are lighter brake calipers out there but it's a costly upgrade. Why replace parts that are not broken?

vayakora | Eco mouse mats: silk, linen, cotton, ramie, bamboo, etc.

Thanks to everryone who took the time to reply. I really appreciate it. I'm getting a new 120g seat today. That will help a tiny bit but I think the biggest areas to go for are the cassette and the cranks. Do the jockey wheels really help?

Will look into the Darimo seatpost, thanks.

The current Quarq Dzero 110mm PM spider with D1 arms is around 480g so with light rings like Extralite you're looking at about 580g altogether which would probably save over 200g on your SRM setup. I've got a couple and the latest one I picked up off eBay for just over £400 (without rings) so much cheaper than some options.

Won’t be cheap but I bet if you went full Darimo on bars, seatpost amd stem, you’d drop 150-200g or even more. Stem alone would be +50g because I replaced my ec90sl stem (135g) with an Extralite Hyperstem (83g) which I think is heavier than a Darimo at same size (110mm). Seatpost I bet would be 100+. Not sure on bars.
