Nice bike. I love my Helium SLX!
Thanks ArtV! I went with the 35mm FarSports in part because of the aesthetic I saw on your bike.

Cheers :beerchug:

Bars on!

But... also playing with position, so old school and heavy-ish setback seatpost is also back on.

Net weight loss of 50g haha!

I think I should be right on 6.5kg when I get a lighter seatpost and stem.

Cheers all :beerchug:

So... purchased a 100mm 3t Arx Team stem (- ≈ 20g), and a Ritchey Superlogic Flexlogic Link Illogical SuperFlex something something seat post (- ≈ 90g). I reckon weight loss should be around 110g, so take me right on to 6.5kg...... but we'll have to wait and see!

Got the seatpost yesterday and stem (2nd hand but good condition) today.

Seatpost was from eBay. Not cheap in an absolute sense, but definitely in the relative sense.
I wasn't sure about the whole Link thing, but then saw a few threads on here and it seemed like quite a nice post.
Took almost 90g off the previous Giant carbon post I had. 350 x 27.2. 15mm setback.

The stem. Ahhh.... the stem!! I've been trying to get a hold of one of these at a reasonable price for a long time. They came out, what, 8-10 years ago? Great reviews all round, then 3T go and make the Arx II, which personally I don't like quite as much. Then they make the... Apto?!?! I don't quite get that stem, and it seems a lot of others don't either... I always see them on sale.

Anyway.

I nearly got an Arx Ltd stem, it was on sale at Chain Reaction, I purchased it and and then my order was lost! Back to the drawing board. Had a look around, nearly bought an MCFK on sale over here (2nd hand, of course), then found this. 10mm longer than I had orginally intended, but as I'm riding more and my flexibility is improving I almost need a 100mm. SO I've purchased it and installed it as an aspirational component.

All wankery aside, it's a great stem. 100mm with Ti bolts, 121g, so 27g less than the 90mm FSA that was on there before.

So a 115ishg weight loss brings me to a final (!) weight of 6.5kg!

I'll try to get a shot soonish, but to be honest, I want to keep improvoing flexibility so I can drop and invert my stem. Right now it's a nice bike, but I think it'll be more photogenic when the stem is semi-slammed.

Cheers all!

Any many thanks to all the members who make this site what it is.... a haven for weight weenies!

I don't know how much you paid that 3T stem, but with Kalloy Uno, 100mm (and with Ti bolts) would have 20 grams lighter stem. These days it's harder to find it, and costs little more than 1-2 year ago, (import from the Far East and whole that story), but you can find it in few other places, and is still cheap (and good) to drop a solid number of grams.
And you are already short with the place in the title, so ...

Believe it or not I actually have a 100mm Kalloy stem with ti bolts in my possession. Having ridden it, read the College cycling and Fairwheel stem reviews, and snapped a ti bolt when torquing it to spec, I've decided to go with something a little stiffer and more resilient. It's a little too weightweenie for me....

-20g is indeed a good gain (loss??), but the 3T feels a little sturdier to me.

The original stem on my bike has "Ghost" logo on itself, but the look is almost exactly the same Kalloy Uno. Weight only confirms that. But it's 100mm, and with a new handlebars I needed 90 mm. So, no brainer to me.

+15k kilometers without issue. Even no marks/dents on carbon handlebars, last time I checked. Tightening only "on the feeling" as well as everything else.
True to be told, that stem is the cheapest part of my bike. I do not buy cheap (certainly not the cheapest) parts, but obviously this stem is so popular because it has his merits. Probably everything can broke, even some high-end stuff, question is only in which percent and conditions.

Did you tighten the kalloy uno the right way?

You mean with a torque wrench, and bottom then top 2 bolts?

Yes with a torque wrench, but the top is supposed to have no gap not the bottom, and the faceplate needs to be the right way around

I believe I had it correctly oriented. Top/bottom difference is likely due to the fact I ran it positive rise, not negative.

Well, it was a good run while it lasted. Unfortunately I had a stupid stack on it and severely cracked the frame:

I had the option of repairing it, but decided to go with a different frame instead. One of the deciding factors was that the Ridley was a medium, and I think I would have preferred a small.

Picked up a Scott Foil frame for now. It's heavier, although it does ride nicely.

I'm not ruling out another Ridley though.....
