I've started this thread to show the build of the new Specialized Aethos frame that I picked up today (Oct 9).

Some initial stats:

Frame size: 52
Frame weight: 591g (includes decals, frame protectors, and front derailleur mount)
Fork weight: 274g (uncut)

The build is planned to be a mix of Dura Ace, Darimo, THM, and Alpitutde. Still deciding on wheels, pedals, and chainrings. Any suggestions? I'd like power pedals and am leaning towards Favero Assioma DUO or the rumored Garmin Vector 4. Chainrings might be Carbon Ti or Extralite. Wheels should be tubeless capable (recent convert after finding 2! nails in my tubeless tire and riding it for a few days).

I'm a climber and weigh about 65kg if that helps.

Specialized Shiv TT Disc (2020) - 7.9kg

*all weights include pedals, computer mounts, and bottle cages.

Don't think that is possible?

cyclingweekly tested a 52 model at 5.95kg. Maybe wishful thinking but would love to see it :)

Maybe not popular on a Specialized, but it's hard to beat the original Bontrager XXX integrated bar/stem (my 420/100mm combo weighs 225g and rides great):

The branding is pretty minimal. This will be as light or lighter than most boutique standalone bars and stems (eg, figuring a THM Ulna is 155g and Darimo IX4 is 74g).

try extralite wheels or schmokle wheels as they are light weight
why not go with the aplinist wheels? they match the bike really well and are super light as well

Wow that is one light frame. Looking forward to seeing this build.

Definitely can go under 5kg with the right components with such a light frame.

My Urgestalt is under 4.7kg and the frame was 200g heavier.

Thanks for the heads up but it doesn't look like it's made in my size

Thanks for the suggestions. The alpinist wheels are under consideration but I'm leaning towards tubeless.

I think they're stickers or some kind of transfer. They're very thin and barely noticeable when you run your finger over them.

On the note of wheel weight reduction, any consideration for Berd Spokes to take a few 100g off the wheelset? I rode a set of them the other day and besides the obvious feel of quicker spin up you get from any weight reduction on a wheelset the sort of vibration dampening effect is also quite interesting unless riding only on pristine tarmac.
