Hi, any news on the bike?
Well, the Cervelo is long gone.. It served me well; its a great bike, but I was riding it way to much on the road only so I went down a rabbit whole of building a few Road specific bikes: Cervelo S3, R5, Viathon R1, 3T Strada Due, Tarmac Sl7 and finally the Aethos..

Have kept the Aethos and have over 5000 road miles on it and it isn't going anywhere.. I bought a cheap Alloy Statte All Road with Rival AXS for Winter/ Gravel and trainer rides.

The Aspero is great, if I truly had the opportunity to ride 50% gravel I would have kept it, but there isn't any off-road riding where I live so I wanted something dedicated to road that would be lite and minimal proprietary parts.
Oh, I understand. I have finally built mine instead, I am riding it for 2 weeks. It's 7,9 kg in road mode and I was looking for some (cheap) advice on how to shave some grams..

My previous Canyon ultimate with rim brakes was 7,7 kg but I had a better feeling on road compared to Cervelo. I don't think it's the 200gr of difference, maybe it's the geometry.

Well, thanks anyway and happy rides!

You should post your build specs, then we can make some recommendations.

These aren't cheap but the biggest savings can come from, wheelset, tires, crankset,

Probably good place to start would be tubes and tyres. Get some latex or TPU tubes and that's maybe 130g saving, different tyres maybe around 150g (and that's for another 28mm pair, obviously more if you went narrower), plus probably get a lower rolling resistance. Depending on how fussy you are with saddles, potentially 80g you could save there with something from AliExpress. Maybe lighter bartape could save you 50g or so if the stuff you have is a bit heavy. After that it starts getting more costly. But with all that I've said that could be 400g.

Your reply made me think about the bar tape, which I forgot to mention, is the standard Cervelo, that came with the Frame and also the expander, same thing.

I have also ordered some J&L thru axle from eBay, I have read they work fine.

The tyres I know are heavy, but Vittoria I had like 2 punctures in 3 years.

Thanks for the advices.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a Aspero and I enjoyed reading about all teh progress on these builds. I am running with a Force 2x crank - and the gear range is awesome.

Could anyone comment on the best weight/cost components to swap out (after the Rival crank that I have already swapped out)?

thanks
