Sold the Allez Sprint that I had and as a sort of 'surviving high school' gift to myself, I am gonna get to build up one of my dream frames. (Yea it's not a real mki but it's as close as I am gonna get for the time being). The geometry for the 49cm allez is actually super close to this which is cool. Most of the parts will be straight transplants from the Allez so nothing super cool or expensive.
Put down the cash for a frame today so the wait begins.

LOL "surviving high school" is actually a thing considering where we live...
It (actually he, Andrew Low) is. I too live in the SF Bay Area and was a happy LOW// mki rider for about two years. 16 lbs flat with pedals and no real weight weenie parts (semi-exception: WOODman seatpost), not a harsh ride. I sold it at a bargain price -- ican'taffordcycling, I'd have sold it to you cheap had I known you were a fan, except that it was size 56 -- to switch to a gravel-ish bike, before the LOW// gravel version was available.
Cannondale Supersixevo 4 (7.05 kg)
Retired: Chapter2, Tarmac SWorks SL6, Orbea, Dogma F8\F10, LOW, Wilier, Ridley Noah, Cervelo R3\R5\S2\Aspero, Time Fluidity, Lapierre Pulsium, Cyfac, Felt, Klein, Cannondale pre-CAAD aluminum

Might not have worked as I'm 49 and want discs. I wanted a locally built frame and it was either gonna be a low or a rock lobster. I went with the low mostly because of pricing and because I love Andrew's work. So far he has dealt with all of my stupid questions over the phone and accommodated my build happily. As for weight, I'm looking at 16.5 lbs with my napkin math so not horrible but not WW by any means.
Looking forward to this! The LK models are super tempting given the price. It's still the same spec tubing right? Just the finishing isn't as nice (really though, it's still finished nicer than the welds on my Spooky.. lol)
What's the anticipated lead time?

I ordered the rest of the parts for this build other than wheels and tires. I ended up getting a 130 BCD spider for the Quarq instead of the 110 because that was all that was in stock and there were no updates of a restock any time soon. Really eying some ENVE 3.4 ARs right now instead of the WR45 set from LB. @dudemanppl (RIP) has a reasonably light Ritchey Superlogic Seatpost for me.
Got an email this afternoon from Andrew saying that his latest batch of chainstays was defective. My frame has been pushed back to an expected ship date of october 5th. Not having a road bike for these last 4 weeks has REALLY sucked. The only thing keeping me excited was the idea of getting a custom frame handbuilt by one of the best frame builders in the country.
I am not sure what to do right now. His email said nothing about the option for a refund. Obviously I really support Andrew and paid for his frame the first time but I am not sure if I should ask for a refund. Being a student working a minimum wage job I can't afford another bike for the next 3 months. I am leaning towards asking for a refund tomorrow.
I already bought items specific for this bike: bottom bracket, seat post, fork, headset(s). This is so incredibly frustrating and I have no idea what to do.
But yea. Most likely I am going to ask for a refund and cry myself to sleep.

Must be frustrating indeed. But at the end of the day try to keep things into perspective - it's just bikes. The important thing is to keep you pedalling as it's good for your mental health as well.icantaffordcycling wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 7:45 amGot an email this afternoon from Andrew saying that his latest batch of chainstays was defective. As I see it, you have two options.
1 - ask for a refund, sell all your parts and then buy another bike. You might lose a bit of money in the process.. and it might be a pain.
2 - don't ask for a refund, go buy the cheapest cheap cheap used road bike you can find, even if it's a super crappy piece of metal.. something that will allow you to just spin the pedals for the next few months. Then count the days until October.

This is that hard part with custom bikes, the waiting, and ever extending delivery dates. I was told my rock lobster would take 5 weeks, it took 5 months, I didnt get any explanation why. I love riding so much, I could never be without a road bike, this is why it is important to have a B bike/rain bike. I realize bikes are expensive, but theres never been a better time to build bikes up. So many parts on frames online, I would build up a b bike as you wait.
Or maybe email him and explain your circumstances, perhaps he will refund you. I was ultimately somewhat disapointed in my custom bike, I think it had to do with my expectations growing and growing as I waited.
Ugh sorry bro, that sucks. I was excited to see this and I learned about Low Bicycles through this post and got interested as well. The alu tube shaping, paint options, and the logo/font typeface all really did it for me. I hope things work out for you. ;(
