Since I last posted an update at the end of april I went back to sanding but kind of lost steam cleaning up minor details.

I have since recieved my Smud seatpost clamp and then built up the bike around a month ago and have been riding it with crappy wheels.

This bike rides better than any other rim bike I have ridden so far. Loving it. :beerchug:

I have been weighing every component before I add it to the bike but have not yet weighed the whole bike. Eventually I will edit the initial table.

Parts on order or being worked on:
Darimo T1 loop seatpost 3k matte 250mm
35mm tubular wheelset using reynods rims and white industries hubs. Front 559g rear 716g. Used $400.
I will replace the clear heatshink on the handlebars with matte black heatshink sometime in the future.

Parts that I am researching:
Second super light wheelset
tubular tires
headset
bar end plugs

Generally I like riding without it initially while I tinker with the bike. I will almost certainly add some once I have my posistion and cable lengths set in a few months.

I received my darimo T1 loop recently. It came in at 63.20g for matte 3k 250mm length. This upgrade saves me 175.91g :beerchug:

Current weight on a bike scale was a bit under 13lbs or 5.9kg with shimano 9100 pedals and the cheap heavy metal wheelset I have on it currently.

More to come when I get the carbon tubulars on it.

edit: also sold the handlebars that came on the bike for $100.

That is one light seatpost! How secure is the fitting?

I am very happy with it. No slipping so far even with the low torque spec of 3Nm on the rear bolt. There is a ton of info on it in a specific darimo post viewtopic.php?f=3&t=151912&start=390

Edit: For reference I weigh under 58Kg. Heavier riders might have a different experience.

Here is a preview of where I'm at now after buying a used set of tune skyliners for $1140.

4.917 Kg / 10.84 lbs including shimano r9100 pedals and a titanium king cage.

I never expected to get this low. :unbelievable:

I still haven't touched the heatset. I also havent replaced stem bolts with Ti which I have on another bike which should save ~10g. However, the total weight will go up from here with different tubular tires and handlebar tape.

nice. better picture, side view, of the complete bike would be desirable.

Hello everyone,

wow its been awhile time for an update.

This project has been a blast. Every time I ride it I have a huge smile on my face it is just so damn fun to ride.
7.jpg
I have some berd wheels on the way which is the last big thing to change in my current plans. After those arrive I'll likely get around to updating the tables for a more finalized view of the project.

The last time I weighed it as a whole the bike with pedals came in at 4.808 kg / 10.60 lbs. Since then I changed the stem, the bottle cage, the headset, added a 4iiii pm, and bike computer. my goal is 4.536 kg / 10.00 lbs with pedals but I might be ~50-100g short of that goal after the berd wheels and no project is ever truely done is it :beerchug:

I removed the rubber rings from the cassette saving a bit more weight after seeing jpeterson1012's post. :beerchug:

Saved 7.8g from the 11-32 red22 cassette.

edit: also I finally weighed the bike as pictured one post above.

With pedals, bike computer, and bottle cage the bike weighs in at 4.69 kg or 10.34 lbs.

Hopefully the berd wheels will push this below 10 lbs.

As a small rider I've found that most bikes have been too stiff specifically my old sl4 tarmac. When I purchased this bike I assumed that I would build it up for a sub 6.8kg weekend bike that wouldn't become my main bike and that it would ride similar to my old sl4 which would beat up my back.

However, I found that this bike was more comfortable with 22mm tubulars than a cheap Al commuter, Diamondback Haanjo to be specific, with its 44mm tires which I found shocking and caused me to sell off the Haanjo. I also found it to be just as comfortable as my focus paralane with 37mm tires.

What I took out from this is that for me frame size specific layups are very important when you are at the end of the spectrum and that for me tire width didn't matter much. It also helps that during Covid almost all of the roads near me were freshly repaved too 8)

The Izalco max to me is comfortable but is very snappy and bounces around a lot due to low system weight and tiny tires. I love this responsiveness compared to other bikes I've owned and the acceleration is unlike anything I've been on before. This bike is so much fun that it has become my main bike which has made it easy to justify upgrades. However, due to this snappy and bounciness I wouldn't consider it to be a smooth ride if that makes any sense. It commands more attention while riding than my paralane.

The biggest issue with this bike has been the sram front derailleur but I knew that this part was fiddly before going in. Also the low torque setting on the carbonworks cage also has required retightening to spec once so far. I'll add threadlocker next time if it needs attention again.

I just recieved my berd wheels.

742g total. 322g 20 hole cyber front, 420g 24 hole cyber rear sl-2.

I'm waiting on a shipment of black casing tubulars for 3+ weeks now but have a set of gum walls of the same tire if I get impatient. Decisions decsions...

I'm looking forward to seeing how the berd wheels compare to my tune skyliners and will report back when I have more info.

Hopefully I won't have to wait too long on the tire shipment.

Looks like I'll be within 27g of 10lbs for the full build including pedals, bike computer, computer mount, and bottle cage :beerchug:
