I have an Colnago C40 HP b-stay in almost new condition. 53cm top-tube c-c. The bike still had the original tyres and chain in good condition when I purchased it recently.
The wheels are Ambrosio Excellence 18mm width with lovely Campanolo Record hubs which I would like to preserve so looking at a new set of clincher wheels to share the load.
Would a set of Bora 35’s with Conti GP 4000s II 23c look a bit silly, they’re so chunky at 24mm width on a 18 year old bike (clearance issues)? Would prefer and will probably go for Shamal Ultra C17 22mm width but I don’t really like the thick alloy spokes. £750 verses £1,350 too.
Any thoughts welcome.

Sometimes the old ones are the best. Congratulations on a very fine build.
Last week I also refreshed mine. It has non-B stay C40 circa 2000, Record 10. Added new 40cm bars with modern shape 26mm to retain the stem, loud bar tape, Bora 35s, King stainless cages, new Corsa tyres, Ultegra pedals, Phenom saddle and took it for a spin between snow showers. The only thing I don’t like is the saddle. Bars in particular are a huge improvement.
I have to say that it’s better than I remember, and I imagine your is too.
Apologies for the non pro photo. If anyone has a Record 10 chainring set and cassette they’d like to part with for a reasonable price please let me know.

Lovely Rabobank! That is one of my favorite paintwork for C40. And bar tape goes extremely well with the frame. What is it you don't like about the saddle, fit or looks?mrfish wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 7:14 pmSometimes the old ones are the best. Congratulations on a very fine build.

Saddle is a Specialized phenom. Comfort wise now better after some adjustments, but looks wise the gap between saddle top and rails is too big, which I don't like. Much better have a low profile saddle and cut the saddle clamp bolts so they don't impale you.
