One more small detail you can do is swap the RD hanger for the DM version and then you can take off the stock link. Should be about 8-10g saved. Maybe upgrade the hanger bolt to Ti too.

Kinda confused here, you started at 6.25kg but after changing to an extremely light custom wheelset, superlight seatpost and other weightweenies upgrades and you only saved 5g???!! I must have missed something.

Old setup with CLX50= 6.25kg
New setup with custom 1.145g wheelset= 6.20kg

You expected to save 458g from all the upgrades....where that go?

Exactly, you got me right there...

I trust my kitchen scale with which I measured all the single items, so the weight deltas and overall saved weight are correct.
However, I have to admit: My travel luggage scale, which I used for total bike weight, does not fulfill the requirement for weightweenies accuracy.
I guess it needs some temperature compensation or something like that?
The readings from last October with the CLX50 were inaccurate and displayed too low, I'd guess by around 300g, the most recent ones should be closer to the truth... I should get a proper bike scale

Thanks to dudemanppl's great tip I've exchanged the stock rear derailleur hanger for a direct mount one.
Specialized part number is S182600003 if anyone needs it.

This saves 6 grams, but more importantly to my eyes, it looks much cleaner.

After aligning the rear derailleur hanger with a gauge tool (which was necessary), I reset the high & low limit screws and re-indexed the gears.
Regarding shifting performance: it was "Dura Ace perfect" before, and I do not feel it being any more perfect now
Also wheel changes work exactly the same.

While I was at it, I threw out the Dura Ace chain and put a fresh one on: KMC X11 SL, which weighs 12 grams less than the Dura Ace for my specific chain length.

I'm at 65kg, no flex noticable... but I'm also not a 1600W sprinter
For the intended purpose as climbing wheelset, putting out steady power in the wattage range for mere mortals they are wonderful, very lively.

Your rim's internals widths are 21.6mm and external is 26.4mm is it dangerous to use such a wide rim with regular road tires?
I've read somewhere that states tires generally should be 1.45-2.0 x the inner rim width. So basically you are running gravel/MTB wheels with road tires?

Stans approves 25-40mm wide tires for the CB7 rim, for both road and gravel use.

The Vittoria Cora and the Schwalbe Pro One in 25mm measure 28-29mm when mounted. So far, no issues, no danger (?), very comfy ride.
Mounted 28mm measures at almost 31mm.

Where do you think the danger lies when running in tubeless setup?

I've thought about my first world problem of having a nice Roval CLX 50 wheelset collecting dust in my garage.

So I decided to run two setups for winter and summer. The bike is just too addictive to not ride it all year round

• Winter: Roval CLX 50 with wider and more comfortable tubeless tires (28mm front, 30mm rear), Shimano XTR pedals for winter boots
• Summer: Climbing wheelset with fast & light tires (25mm front & rear, also tubeless), SPD-SL pedals for the S-Phyre shoes with custom insoles.

This will provide more comfort and puncture resistance for base miles in the winter, and will feel nice and lively when hitting the mountains come spring & summer... and when I've lost 3.000g on myself

Nice problem to have... so I got to work.
I decided for the Schwalbe Pro One TLE. Was also eyeing the new Specialized RapidAir tubeless, but general availability is not so great currently in Germany.
Might try them next.

They are quite true to size on the CLX 50 with their wide inner rim width @ 21mm.
This is the 28mm version, but inflated to a rather high pressure (7 bar / 100 psi) to get it initally seated properly. At riding pressures (I run 3 bar / 42 psi), it is pretty much spot on 28mm in front resp. 30mm in rear.


Weight for the 28mm at 268g is below Schwalbe's claim (=270g)... which I am not used to with Schwalbe.


However, one Schwalbe tire came with quality issues: layers were disintegrating.
Schwalbe support said I should not ride it and will send a replacement:

Rideable rear wheel with the 30mm Schwalbe comes in at chubby 1396g with Dura Ace 11-28T cassette... the climbing rear wheel with Vittoria Corsa Speed and SRAM 11-30T is about 225g lighter.
Rideable front wheel comes in at 1041g... climbing rear wheel is 166g lighter.
So with the summer wheelset, 391g come off.
With the SPD-SL pedals 70g come off.
461g difference between summer and winter setup.




The ready-to-ride-bike is now sitting at 6.55 kg.



Looking forward to the first ride on the magic carpet... it is raining currently

42psi?!?!?! How much do you weigh? I thought I was crazy for running 55 psi on a 30mm measured tire at 57kg.

55 psi on the 30mm tyre on 21mm inner rim width feels too harsh and bumpy on the roads & paths I ride on.

Too low pressure and it gets squishy. Coming from MTB, I try to run as low as possible.
42 psi for me is on the lower end, but still responsive, not bottoming out on potholes or bouncy feeling in the saddle . Just quite smooth & comfy, like on a magic carpet
