:lol: Just style points. It keeps the brake cable and Di2 cable together, but I think you knew that since you mentioned heat shrink tubing. I wish the piece was longer to enter the handlebar, but I only ordered one and that was the full length. It's normally used for PC cables.

Sorry for the rookie question, but does Di2 always have a cable that exits the handlebars and heads into the frame?

Yes, how else can the shifters talk to the derailleurs & battery? Remember, di2 is not wireless.
