I’m pretty convinced that the cables are your problem. I wouldn’t be too concerned about whether you have the new “Maximum Smoothness” cables or the regular stainless steel cables (the outers are the same regardless) unless you have some really crazy bends going on. I’ve tried both on mine and it never made a difference, although I have very smooth cable runs. But if there’s anywhere that might cause added friction then the max smoothness inner cables can’t hurt.

Oh yeah... did you ever just try the simple test of pushing the derailleur manually with your thumb to see how far it will go with the lower limit screw backed off. That would at least confirm whether or not the dérailleur is even capable of moving over that far. It’s like a 2 second test. You don’t even have to undo the derailleur cable, just put the bike in the stand, back off the limit screw, pedal a bit while you manually push the derailleur inwards towards the spoke, without pushing it all the way into the spokes of course.

Yeh - don't worry this was one of the first tests I did. The mech still doesnt get there... So I know cables won't resolve my situation, but the shifting has been excessively lazy since using Nokons! Cheers man, really chuffed with the groupo look. Excited to get some new bits which are arriving over the next few days. Doubtful I'll be fitting them soon as baby due as of today for the missus so I'll probs have a few weeks off the bike.
It's looking like I'll be going for black, I know it's been done to death but I just love black bikes. Always have and always will! Either that or candy red which is super appealing. Some of the stelbels in candy red are fab - id love to go for this look.
Fitted the Swissstop D30 RS pads today and will put on some new rotors before I use them, just need to get it sorted nicely. They are very yellow so don't be getting these if you don't want them to standout
Some mundane extras as well, lost a few grams with Ti rotor bolts, some good pound to gram savings 13g saved for £12
Looked at trimming down my seatpost but I'd be effectively losing around 5-10g cutting it down when it's probably going to be something I adjust more following a bikefit. So this will come later.
Nokon cables will be coming off in place of the original Maximum smoothness Campy ones, I've got to be honest - it's annoying as I always wanted nokons but they just don't perform well enough and I want this bike to be solid as a rock especially when for at least the next year riding is going to be an as and when I can fit it in scenario so I can't be faffing with the bike in the interim.
I went ahead and ordered some Ti axles from Toronto cycles as the J&L options suffered some axle wear as my bearings were completely shot. Wasn't too impressed with the quality of machining one threads on the J&L options.

Went for some SRAM Centreline Two piece rotors - wanted something with more of a straight forward less aggressive pad sweep, these should be similar in weight to the Maguras but I believe with a less 'holey' surface the bite may be a bit better as there is more contact area.
Alongside this pad life should be increased, I got about 3,000KM from the current setup. Seemed a touch low in my view and that was wearing down to the metal.

So the Toronto cycles axles arrived - much better quality than J&L and the same weight. So winner winner, also come with wrench flat so they can easily come off if stuck which always worried me with just an Allen on the others.
The SRAM rotors arrived and weighed in at 99g and with 7g for the Ti bolts. Great saving for a better rotor, and they look bling as.
Gathered with that the Cinelli bars arrived weighing at 220g.

Hope front Caliper on - looks amazing!! Will ride tomorrow to test it out - lever feel is great at the moment.

The Hope calipers are very pretty!! Always my go to brakes for mtb.

Just looking at sourcing other bits and pieces and think the wheelset will need a change in the new year. I'll be stripping the frame bare and weighing and also going for a Cane Creek slamset and a few other lighter bits to shed maybe 150g. Then wheels should bring me under the 8kg mark. Thinking Campag WTO or Tune Schwarzbrenners.
This Wheelset weighs in at 1617 grams and the Fulcrums were 1660 so I'm not that worried about the weight differences.
The useablity of the Fulcrums would just be on depth, I'm a big enough guy that when a gust of wind hits I'm not too worried about the wheels taking me so they are good all rounders.
Plus - in my view the bike looks tons better and is quicker for the fast paced Chaingangs I usually do and solo rides where I go and gas it for sub 2hrs. Overall their performance is awesome!

Been getting the miles in over winter and still impressed with the frameset, salty roads and grit have meant the bikes been kept very clean and lubed but nevertheless all the bearings (minus the cranks) have pretty much needed doing.
To do list is sort out a low stack headset spacer that works, new Seatpost (still on agenda) and probably a respray.
