2019 S5 Disc Di2 - 7.25kg

Not sure yet... SL7, new Madone, possibly and BMC TMR. The Allez is amazing, don't really need another £10k bike, but obviously N+1.

I believe you!
A pity i haven't tried any alu bike latest 10-15 years..
I'm contemplating what i'll get next.
Thinking, alu or steel. Don't think Ti is worth it.
In my case i'll probably go custom.
Bikes:
Ax Lightness Vial EVO Race (2019.01.03)
Open *UP* (2016.04.14)
Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)
Ex bike; Vial EVO D, Vial EVO Ultra, Scott Foil, Paduano ti bike.

Is the only way to get a S5 to < 6.8kg to run light weight aero wheels?
Is there any opportunities for:
Ti and aluminum fasteners? Looks like it has a lot of fasteners everywhere
THM crank set with TA -specialty rings?
Modified Di2 battery for lighter weight but less capacity? Or Seam RED wireless?
Is there anything worth Dremel'n out?

Narrower bars (these were 420mm)Cheers! wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:33 amIs the only way to get a S5 to < 6.8kg to run light weight aero wheels?

Shorter stem (this had a 130mm)
Normal DA rear mech (OSPW in 30g heavier)
Shallower wheels (not aero, no point)
THM cranks (no power meter)
You could build it to IRO 6.8kg but would defy the purpose of the bike. Chasing weight numbers is fun until the bike starts to get slower and / or reliability is compromised.
This bike was used properly and raced. Never let me down and never had any issues.

You certainly live at a place of low gravity I feel like. All your bikes are lighter than what I measure them to be

I did/plan some mods to 9170:
1. DIY CF hoods. Not tested yet. ~30g savings.
2. The battery mod you mention. Replace cover with a thin food bag for insulation, a couple of foam rings and a string to hang it from - ~10g saved. Replace batteries with a pair of 300mah 14250, ~15g saved. Not done yet.
3. Carbonice pulleys (10g).
4. Direct mount hanger (depends on your hanger design, 10 to 20g savings).
5. Darimo promised to work on CF lever collars, but it's already been a year, the pandemic delayed everything. Should save ~10g. Schmolke collars don't work with ST-R91070.
6. Go 1x. Not for everyone.
No idea how much Red eTap 11 weights, probably a wash when you factor out cassette and crankset differences.
I thought this forum is called weight weenies...
It wasn't long ago that barely was a bike posted in introduce yourself that was > 6.8kg.
Where are all the folks with lightweight brand wheels? Modified Campagnolo parts? Bikes fully stripped apart and every nut, bolt, taken off and reviewed if it should be nylon, aluminum or Ti. Then a the cables ripped out and perfectly measured to exact lengths to get the lightest weight...
There were bikes built sub 5.5kg that were perfectly reliable.
My 5.2kg 2008 Cervelo SLC-SL with Reynolds DV46C rims, tune mig/mag and dura-ace 7800 has easily gone over 20,000kms. I've only ever had to change brake pads, cables, chains, chainrings and cassettes. Nothing has ever failed on her.

Bringing back an old there here. Does anyone know if you can choose bar width and stem length when buying a frame set. I'd be looking to get a 56, but would prefer 40mm bars and 120mm stem. If you can't customize when ordering, how easy is it to buy different bars and stem. Also, are Cervélo bars measured at the hoods or ends? And is there any flare to them, with the hoods being narrower than the drops? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks in advance for any help.

the cockpit is proprietary. Bar, Stem and seatpost. Unless you are getting Berk to make custom peices for you they are pretty much fixed weights.
That leaves:
Shifters/brakes (I guess you choose Sram Red22)
Crankset (THM)
Brakes (are Hope calipers lighter than Sram Red22?)
Bottle cages (9g weight weenies ones from Tune or whoemebver I guess)
Nylon bolts for bottle cages
Ti bolts for seatpost and seatpost binder mechanism
Ti Bolts for Calipers
Recon cassettes are garbage
Lighweight wheels
Tubular tires
that's about it, there is no real tuning left.
I guess saddle and pedal choices are possible too.

As other people have stated, they are proprietary to the bike, you can, if you have the patience, change the bar width and stem length through Cervelo/the shop you purchase it from.Gx3 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 12:35 amBringing back an old there here. However, for my S3, which has similar prop. parts, it took me about a month of arguing with Cervelo Europe (and escalating to their VP of marketing) to get them to swap it out with minimal cost. (otherwise you are looking at £270 for the Stem and £360 for the bars)
Good luck...
