Canyon Ultimate CF SLX - hill climb build

Hi everyone,

New to the forum and WW-ism.

I've built up my Ultimate CF SLX into a proper hill climb spec, and early season results are looking promising. Now after thoughts/advice on how I might get the build down towards the 5kg mark. Currently at 5.65kg in the following spec:

- Ultimate CF SLX frame and fork size S

- Dura Ace 9000 mechanical (crabks, levers, rear mech, brakes, jockey wheels)

- Starbike 40t front setup (1x)

- Alligator ilinks / mini ilinks cabling

- 3t ernova carbon bars, drops sawn off, no tape

- Pro Vibe stem 110mm

- Hylix carbon saddle and post (post cut down)

- Handbuilt Chinese tubs on Novatec hubs, Vittoria Corsa SC tubs

- Garmin Vector 3 pedals

KMC 11SL chain


Thoughts/comments:

So what's the low hanging fruit, if any?

1. Can't change wheels, bars, cables, chainring, saddle or stem (all bought as part of the initial build so not willing to spend more upgrading these for now).</t>

2. Cranks? Pedals? Could potentially go for some carbon cranks and get a 4iii power meter fitted, then use Time Expresso pedals or similar? The Vectors are heavy (320g). Power is essential as I need it for measuring hill climb race efforts, bit I need to find a reasonably cost-efficient way of getting a light setup with reliable power meter...

3. Stem? Trouble is, the canyon steerer is 1 1/4 not the standard 1 1/8, and I have only been able to find limited normal ie not super light stem options in this diameter (Pro, Ritchey...) Does anyone know of any of the light weight specialists do 1 1/4 stems?

I'll try to get a pic uploaded. Not the most beautiful thing in the world but this is all about weight and race feel / results for me.

1. Brake pads - use Corima cork ones?
2. Cassette - what's on currently? Sram red XG1190 is light and reliable. Rotor is light but durability might be a potential issue
3. Shifter hoods - diy with heat shrink or wrap with tape?
4. Pulley wheels - light one's wouldn't cost too much.
5. Brakes - if you can swop them out, easy savings can be had. KCNC ones can be cheapish yet light.

Either gut the front shifter or get another brake lever of compatible shape. Or DIY a friction shifter for RD and swap the cockpit to a bullhorn with TT brake levers.

Planet-X CNC brakes? £50 used on eBay. 100 grams lighter than your current Dura-ace. Terrible in terms of performance compared to DA but you won't be really using your brakes in a hill climb.

Giant 1-1/4", 90mm carbon stem.

Ritchey Superlogic stem will be similar weight.

what tyres are you using? are they corsas?

how about some tufo elites? heaviest ones are 160g and lightest are 125g. corsas weigh at least 260g

edit: just re-read your post. the corsa SCs are approx 210g but still a worthwhile upgrade if you can find the 125g tufos
